How do you react when people ask how much your bag cost?

People around me ask my bag prices all the time. Especially my friends cuz I go to a International School by the American Embassy and all my friends are exposed to designer brands and EVERYONE IN SCHOOL owns designer products like hermes,lv, gucci, prada, etc... EVERYONE wears designer watches like Rolex, Omega, Cartier (i wear Hermes h hour with diamonds). I am a bag addict and I often purchase designer bags and my parents allow me to and people inquire about the price after they praised the bag lol...even my teachers like my runway burberry bags. (Not that i'm boasting but from where I come from (which is the Far East), people inquire those stuff but maybe because we're all close friends in our class as our class only has 37 people in total and the tuition fees cost $15,000 so its mostly posh but not snobby kids go to.

:D no dear ... we are actually from a quite different nation/culture from arabic countries. we are Persian and from Aryan race ( no offense to arabic people, i'm just explaining the difference ;) ) and we are just forced to wear some scarves and as you see we try to remain stylish as much as we can ;)

You girls are way more stylish than I imagine. I thought all the Middle East women have to cover everything. Now, I learn something new. :)

That's great! and this is just the way we dress in public ... we don't need to wear that scarf and trench coat thing when we are at the parties, events, weddings, even some special reserved restaurants/lounges! :graucho:

Just curious if this is a faux pas for some of you. It is for me. I'm not the type to talk about money or try to show off or anything I'm a modest mouse (the band is great too esp. their older stuff) but anyways bc yesterday at work one of my co-workers was talking about an ex co-worker I never met who had a bag addiction. I was like I do too most of the time :sweatdrop:

She was asking me how much my purse was and I didn't really want to go there but she kept asking so I just finally told her and she freaked out her eyes got really big :wtf: and she was like OMG!!! How can you spend that much on a purse !!!

It made me REALLY uncomfortable at first and then I was like you know what I work hard for my money and I choose to spend it on whatever I wish. She was like I know but isn't that excessive? And it would be excessive if I used my entire earnings to go out and spend a few grand on bags everyday but I don't I pay my bills first and put some aside for savings and what I do have left over I use for whatever and sometimes it is to purchase bags. Plus for me they are investment pieces. I pick classic styles that I can wear 5-10 yrs. down the road plus I like to give my bags I don't wear anymore to my sisters and mom so its kind of like heirloom lol and a recycle center bc sometimes the bags come back to me !

And this isn't the first time this has happened to me. Just curious what your thoughts, experiences and reactions are?
How do you feel when people ask how much is anything? I HATE IT! I don't care how much I paid for it, keep out of my business as I am not in yours. Should be a Commandment!

This is a real sore subject with me. No one.....I mean no one understands me. I have lost many a friend because they cannot understand why I pay what I pay for shoes and handbags....and how many I own.

What is the big deal? It's my money and I choose (DH too:p) to spend it how we want but......no one I know ....or knew......understands it. I do not tell them how to spend their money....one so called friend spent $1500.00 on a dog...three dogs actually....$1500.00 and $1200.00. Cute dogs and I am a animal person but I think there are way to many shelter dogs out there to pay that kind of money for a pet. Would be different if she showed the dogs but she doesn't....they are home dogs.....a pet. But it's her money and bless her soul she wants to spend it the way she likes.

I could go on and on.

I love having TPF to 'talk and chat' with people who understand my purse 'addiction'. :smile1: And not give me a tough time on the price of my handbags and how many I buy.

If its a real crocodile, I don't tell them in case it's stolen....

And I pretend the Dior is a fake as well.

As long as I know, that's all that matters!

I could imagine how that would pan out and how funny it would be if the person that asked a snobby "I would never buy a fake"/materialistic status seeking people

This.

People just don't understand why I won't buy old navy/ Ann Taylor loft/ ny and company etc. My explanation is always "I have so much. If I buy something, it needs to be high end and last. I do not need to clutter my already cluttered wardrobe with a dozen forever 21 dresses - I'd be happier with 1 prada dress that fits perfect.

If it is a really close friend or family, I will tell them the price. However, if a stranger asks me, I'll tell them that it was either a gift or that it cost too much and leave it at that.

I have not been asked this question too often, and since it was only by people I knew (friends, certain family member) I used to answer truthfully. That was until I was given a lecture on wasting money and being shallow. Now I just change the subject. I think that any question about the cost of anything someone owns is rude.

I agree.....it is rude.
