I never tell them. Not their business to know. I never tell my boyfriend how much I spend (he gets the idea anyways). If my best friends asked me, I'd tell them though, but ONLY if they asked and weren't asking me because they're judging me. Lol. And if they have a problem with it, I say it's my hard earned money and I'll do whatever I like with it.

It's really not anyone's business and since I have a large bag collection of various designer bags I will carry a bag based on my mood, outfit, weather, and social situation..
To me it depends on the person. But usually i say:
"money, they didn't accept buttons"
"it was a gift"
"forgot about it"

I never tell them and my answer is always, "Enough." It's no one's business how much money I spend on a bag. I don't need to be judged. I'm also not a showy person, so it's not like I wave around my bags looking for attention. People just pounce at the opportunity to ask nosy questions. I work retail and get a lot of pricey handbags on customers that come in and I never have the audacity to ask how much they spent. Just compliment them!

To people who ask it's just an indirect hint that you don't ask those questions.
in Asian cultures, it is so different. They asked you so bluntly and won't drop it until you tell them. They don't consider it rude....
