How do you react when people ask how much your bag cost?

I am proud of my bags, and proud of the work i do that pays for them, so if anybody asks how much they cost i have no problem in telling them, but most of my friends have the same type of bags so there is never a reason to really ask.

Unless it is a fellow bag addict the answer is either...

1.) It was a gift
2.) I don't remember
3.) A Dollar (ask an inappropriate question... get a ridiculous answer... :D)
4.) Around... Um... About... Well... How much do you weigh? :roflmfao:

I love this! Going to put it to use...

it's kinda interesting to me how people find it rude to be asked such questions in other countries. in my country, people ask about these kind of stuff all the time. and it's totally normal. actually, people love being asked about the price of things they purchased, so they can brag about it. sometimes they even claim they bough the items for higher prices, for example if they have bought something from the sale for 150$ they will claim they bought it for 500$!!!

it's also so common in my country that if they see someone has bought something pricy they will try to buy some more expensive stuff to beat them to it! no matter what, even if they normally can't afford it, or they have to pay more than their entire month salary, so they can brag about it to the other people. sometimes they even bring up the subject. for example if someone gives them a compliment about their stuff, they'll tell the price right on! even without being asked! sad but true!

What country are you from? I don't think it would be such a taboo if people weren't so cold about paying high prices. There is nothing wrong with wanting something nice. As long as the bills are getting paid, you're not starving, there should be no shame in it. But some people want you to feel bad, or they just think it's crazy that someone would spend even $100 on a bag.

Sounds like Russia!

____________

If it is a fellow bag addict I tell them the truth. If it's not, I just say, "a lot" or "enough" and let their imaginations do the work.

I've had too many adverse reactions. Some of my mom friends are downright hostile when I say I've spent a couple hundred on a bag. If they only knew the ones under $500 are the "cheaper" ones in my closet!

Smells like Moscow
Reminds me way too much of my friends parents... Its a Rat race...

Unless it's someone I knew really well (who wouldn't judge) I'd probably say I can't remember or that it was a gift. I just wouldn't want to feel like I had to justify a purchase when I made choices, stalked sales, cut back, planned, saved, etc. I wouldn't even want to get into it.

Reminds me of one incident at my friend's house party. We just got back from shopping when we went to my friend's house. My friends wanted to look what I got so they forced me to show the Michael Kors bag that my husband bought for me. All my friends were so happy and take turns to pose a modeling pics w/ it. My friend's husband was sitting across asked how much was it, I just smiled but his wife checked the price tag and blurt it out. He said downright that he would never buy a bag like that & he cant understand why we want such thing etc etc etc. I just told him, well u only seen the michael kors how much more if its Louis Vuitton or a Chanel.

I'm from iran(tehran) :graucho: it's so common here, that people tell each other how much they make , or how much their stuff costs :D everyone tries to live a luxurious life on their own, even if they can't afford it. you can see normal people dress/wear make up like celebrities on the streets. though there are not so many official stores of famous brands here due to political issues, and everything is so expensive!( a low end bag here is around 100$ , and some stores like mango and zara sell their items five times more expensive than other countries! I saw a bag in zara store for 1000$ last year!which i think cost barely 200$),besides, there is a huge gap between people. some people are unbelievably rich, some can't even afford a nice meal. but even average people still pay a lot for everything so they can brag about it, for example cars are times more expensive than other countries, a regular bmw is atleast 100,000 $ here, but u see lots of people driving luxury cars on the streets.

I don't tell people how much my stuff costs. I'm an excellent bargain hunter and most of my items (I own more clothing than bags) were purchased for 50-75% off. If they're curious, I will tell them a range of what the designer usually retails for. I'll say I got it less than that, but not an exact amount.
