This just goes to show you: If you're driving and what you're doing while driving takes your concentration away from the road, then you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

This is just an awful tragic situation. If it were someone whom I loved and I found out that the accident was due to someone's negligence, I would sue them for every penny and beyond.

People seem to think that they are entitled to drive no matter what. Not true, it is a priviledge. If you can't focus on the road, then you have no business driving. I agree that not everyone's perfect, our concentration drift, and accidents do happen. But what I think we all need to take away from this is that when we're fiddling with the radio, trying to find our cellphone in our purse, we can cause the death of someone. Not intentionally. We didn't set out the day with malice, but our careless actions can end a human life. This story and all the other stories really makes me think about our frailty and that I, for one, really need to be more considerate and careful while I'm driving my 3000 lb mass vehicle next time I'm going 65 mph on the freeway or anywhere else.

The thread was posted in here a while back...but as you'll see, no one in here said that he deserved to be jailed even though was speculation that he was drunk driving....as I said before....HMMM

From what I've observed, many people on this forum seem to be biased against female celebs...

Well said. Just yesterday I was driving home and was on the phone, switched lanes without turning on my blinker and luckily there was no one behind me...I immediatly thought...dumbass, get off the phone and pay attention. (and I did)

I don't know how this will play out but I think her family will be compensated in the end.

My 7yr old cousin was hit and killed by a car 2yrs ago.The woman that hit him was driving 15 miles over the speed limit in a residential neighborhood when Justin shot out from behind two parked cars.He had been playing with some children on the opposite side of the street when his mom called him to come home for dinner.Being a child he didn't think and took off running without looking both ways  .

The parents were awarded a $500,000.00 settlement after all was said and done an none of these individuals were celebritys in any sense of the word.

So sorry to hear about your family's loss, Cat.

I've been wondering why there is no discussion of the SECOND car that hit the same car that Brandy did.

Could it be because the second driver is not a celebrity?

I'm not excusing Brandy...it appears she was driving carelessly at the least..over the speed limit and not paying attention to traffic...just wondering if any fault has been assigned to the second driver.

And I am wondering if the fatal injuries were caused by the first collision or the second.

Excellent point, Leah.

Brandy may have been the catalyst in this tragic chain of events, but is it fair to, solely, blame her for everything that happened?

Going by the same logic (sorry Vegas! :D ) that has been applied in this thread, the other driver should have been paying more attention and/or driving more slowly, too and so, should also be prosecuted and perhaps, jailed.

Particularly if the impact from his vehicle caused the fatal injuries.

Well said.

ok well when i get up and leave my house at 3:30 am tomorrow morning to drive to the airport..if i'm feeling tired, i'll make sure i pull over my car, take a nap and then if i miss my flight, i'm sure that my client will understand?

sorry...people just aren't on 100% all of the time. i have never been an accident before, ever. i think i'm a pretty good driver, but things happen.

An accident is an accident.

does this mean people shouldn't take responsibility for their actions? no of course people need to be responsible, but is jail time always automatically the right response?

You said that you drive tired and then almost get in an accident and then it is just an accident - nobody's fault??? An estimated 8,000 people a year are killed by people falling asleep at the wheel. So I don't have a heck of alot of sympathy for people driving tired and then falling asleep and killing or injuring other people who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We are all responsible for our actions when we are the drivers of a vehicle which means - not being intoxicated or too tired to stay awake or distracted by our cell phone or IPOD or putting on mascara.
In my opinion those people are a menace to society.

People make poor decisions and accident happen but some are more avoidable than others. Peggy

Oh Alex I am so sorry for your loss. Maybe reading about a loss from someone who lived it - just maybe it'll sink in. But I doubt it.
