Hooray for the Halzan...

Thanks for this. I love the "smooshing in your lap" description. Love my Evies but for me they are not great "lap bags" because I'm always afraid that if they're not upright, something will fall out of the open top.

I feel myself inching towards a Halzan ...

Hah not a very technical term but I felt it was the best descriptor.

I think why the Halzan feels more "secure" for me on the lap or what not is because the top folds over. So it didn't seem like things could fall out while on my lap even when not "standing" up (during the movie they had like recliners and I had it laying on its side on my lap)

Bumping this thread to ask how everyone is liking their Halzans. For those who have had the bag for a while, do you still love it? Any problems/issues come up over time? I've been thinking of getting another Evelyne PM, but was at the boutique last week and saw the Halzan in Rouge Grenat and was surprised by how much I liked it. The thing is, I didn't like this style at all when it first came out, but (like with the Evelyne) it's really grown on me and seems super user-friendly, more versatile than the Evelyne but also maybe a bit smaller? For those of you who have both a Halzan 31 and an Evy PM, which do you prefer?

The halzan was not a love at first sight for me when it came out. It looked a bit 70s in my eyes. I have never liked the Evie myself because of the "holes", though my favourite boutique lady (enrepreneur) a very chic lady with a trendy but still classic look always prased the Evie, talked about a previous design of it etc.

Nowadays I love the halzan, the classic saddle bag look with stirrup buckle, obvious reference to the horse and classic H barenia leather, what could be more perfect? An under the radar bag, in comparison to Bs and Ks. I also feel this bag has an interesting design and much " thought behind it". Perhaps I will get an Evie one day, a barenia without the " holes" might work for me.

I love my Halzan and it is one of my most used bags. I take it on every trip because it is secure, discreet, practical and versatile. Currently I am in Paris and I am considering looking for another one!

Hi cats, I really like the Halzan for its versatility just like lovetheduns described.
If I remember correctly you are 5'6" which may mean you cannot cross body the Halzan.
The strap is shorter than the Evy and much thinner in width.
I love the barenia, but think it is quite a different bag in barenia compared to a clemence.
Again lovetheduns has a great option of one of each.
I would be seriously tempted for a clemence one.
Truthfully for me I would not buy an Evy, I have thought about it and thought I would but a few things now would mean I wouldn't.
I think I prefer the jyps to the Halzan but it is a lot more money.
Hope this helps.
:hugs:

what are the practical differences for a halzan in barenia vs clemence, in your opinion?
I am aware of the history of barenia and am inclined to the barenia version, though it cost 1000 more, but interested to hear the differences before i take the plunge towards end of the month. my boutique is hold one for me now :)

I have two Evelyne pm bags, and one Halzan 31, which I've had since the bag was introduced. While I love my Evelynes, I think my Halzan is hands-down my most-used Hermes bag. It is incredibly user-friendly, light- weight, versatile and a great travel bag. I don't have a single complaint about that bag! I didn't like the look of the Halzan when I saw the initial press photos, but once I saw it at the boutique, and walked around with it, I knew it had a place in my life. I would get another in a heartbeat!

Totally agree. My Halzan & Lindy 26 are my most used. I never liked Evie because of the big H in front. I'm actually thinking about getting another one if I like the color.

Hi, CapriTrotteur! Good memory -- yes, I am 5'6! I was able to wear the bag cross-body when I tried it on in the store -- it was OK, but I do wish it had hung just an inch lower. What I don't know is if the strap was set to be as long as possible. I had gone in to pick up a bracelet, so I wasn't planning on looking at bags, but ended up playing with the Halzan but not in a really serious way. I have to go back and take a closer look at the different strap length options, and also do the true test of Putting My Things in the Bag. That will really tell the tale, since some people have complained that when the bag is full, the strap cuts into their shoulder.

I love Barenia, but in this bag I think I want Clemence because the Barenia is a lot stiffer and I am drawn to the smooshiness of Clemence for this model.

Like you, I really like the Jypsiere, but don't want to pay the price for a new one. From what I've seen of the resale market, a preloved Jyp runs about the same price as a new Halzan. Decisions, decisions! I love the look of the Jyp, but also love the function (outside pockets!) of the Halzan, which is also a pretty smart looking bag.

Thanks for your thoughts -- it helps me put my own in order!

This is good to know -- thank you! I didn't like the look of the bag at first either, but now I'm really intrigued. It does seem perfect for travel, with both a secure closure and outside pockets. What color Halzan do you have? The one I just played with was Rouge Grenat. I tend to go for neutrals, but really liked this color with the contrast stitching. If I get it, I want to get a color that is as versatile as the design itself.

It's interesting to me that several people have said they didn't like the Halzan when it first came out, but love it now. Perhaps it's an acquired taste? I wanted to put the question out there because usually, there is a fervor when a new style comes out but over time, people find faults and the love fades. It sounds like this is not the case here -- people seem to love using the Halzan over time, which is what I want, because I don't buy with the intent of ever selling (although mistakes happen!).

I agree, much thought obviously went into this design. I didn't like the Evie at first either, because of those "holes," but I just wear it with the H against my body and I love how comfortable it is. Do you find the Halzan strap comfortable?

p.s. It sounds like you may need one of the new Evelyne Sellier bags -- no holes!

I think everyone needs a bag that is more sporty and casual than for example a B, K, C or a Chanel bag. With the halzan I can still express my love for Hermès, but it's more carefree and less in your face than a small B25 that I love. Going on a three week roadtrip to Europe ( mostly France) and my barenia mini halzan will be my bag. Goes perfectly with white linen summeroutfits, a H strawhat and shawl. I will be visiting many H stores and naturally want to show my appreciation of the brand. Perhaps there will be an Evie one day but at the moment I'm fine with what I have. I might also take a mini convoyer on the trip...

My Halzan is Alezan in clemence. I had three colors from which to choose on the day I purchased it, so I chose the one that I felt would be the most versatile. In my mind, Alezan looked similar enough to gold, which is one of my favourite neutral H colors.

Hi azukltea, the barenia makes the bag a lot more structured in my opinion.
It may soften with use, but initially it is reasonably rigid.
Not a bad thing, but different to a softer clemence.
I think it would be harder to "stuff" it as it wouldn't give as easily.
When I have asked around on Tpf most members don't seem to use their outside pockets too much if I recall correctly.
Again on barenia they are reasonably stiff and I would imagine quite hard to get things in and out off, unless they would soften considerably.
That said there aren't too many options for a shoulder Barenia bag, apart from pre-owned Evelyn I believe so if you fancy a shoulder style it is a good option.
Interesting that boutiques still have them, your boutique is London based if I recall correctly.
Would lob to hear your thoughts when you go to see it.
I am still trying to assure myself I don't "need" a mini Barenia, not that there is one available, but when did that stop us.
:hugs:
