You can certainly have those improved with some conditioning, polish and buffing. They may not entirely disappear but they will blend back into the patina. I would not be too worried about these, you would put them on yourself on a pristine wallet anyhow and they wuld blend into the patina over time all will belend. So, unless you are trying to make this look like a new item (that won't happen) I would say go for it.
Thanks doc!

Hi Doc. You helped me with a vintage box kelly last May (pg 368) and am back with another bag. I recently bought a vintage BBK 35 likely from the late 50s early 60s (no zipper on the back pocket). I will definitely post pics but would love your advice on one thing first. She is dry and I suspect on the verge of dry rot. There is some cracking but not really deep and it doesn't look fire-crackled. Around the closure on the flap is cracked and makes a bit of a creaking sound which is why I suspect early dry rot.

Ok, now my question, I've gently given her two light coats of Meltonian Delicate letting her rest for six hours between coats and the creaking is lessened, do I now move to Blackrock for a few coats? Or would I continue with a few more layers of MD? My Hermes store doesn't carry saddle baum. The bag was an impulse purchase but I see she's got heaps of life left, just needs some TLC (and leather filler, lol). I will post pics soon but in the mean time, what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
Yes remember you, nice to see you're back with another project. Let's not rush the conditioning process,I would stay away from using anything with high oil content at this point so no Hermes Saddle baume. I like the Meltonian delicate ,I like high ratio gycerine : fine waxes containing products for very very very dry leathers ...then moving on to fine waxes containing products (like Blackrock's leather N Rich). I would stay with the meltonian delicate for anothr round or two over the next few days allowing the leather to rest inbetween each treatment and not overly maniplulating the leather during this period. Keeping the bag at room temperature not adding additional external heat would also be prudent. I look forward to seeing your photos. Congrats on your Grand Dame Kelly!

Dear Docride,
I would like to know if Saphir Reptan Beauty Milk could be used to polish the Shiny Niloticus leather? Or use it to have it waterproofed? Many Thanks :)

I am sorry but I haven't used this product, you can try a small amount on the back of a strap and wait 24hrs to make sure you like the results. Keeping in mind that the shiny coating on your reptile skin may be removed in advertantly with the use of certain products. OK? Good luck.

Hi Doc,

I'm looking to touch up the corners on some of my gold bags. Could you recommend which
Meltonian shade would be best for gold togo? Your advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It's called Camel , it's not a perfect match though, I actually like Tarrago in think it's no 7 or 9 ...good luck.

I've been looking for a great cross body and have read time and time again that the Evelyne is he way to go. I am very new to Hermes and another TPf'er said this leather may be hard to restore so I am trying to do a little research. I've included the link to the bag. Does this one look hopeless or do you ladies think its repairable/restorable? I would send out to have done and wouldn't bother to do myself. TIA for any comments!

Sorry I was late on answering this, courchevel can restore quite well, some matching polish would have helped quite a bit, some color restorer would give a more dramatic and longer lasting restoration.

Hi Doc:

If I use a high pigment polish, what can be done to minimize the transfer of the polish colour to my clothes etc? Will a finishing coat of Blackrock help? Thanks

Hi, The key to not getting color transafer of polish is to buff the bag really well to remove the excess polish. Blackrock would remove the polish if applied on top. This might be desirable if you have too much polish on the leather.

Hello Doc,

Happy New Year!

Just got my HAC chevre from H spa. What products to i need to maintain it with? can it be waterproofed? and how often do i need to apply the products? I'm UK based so products that you can recommend that can be easily sourced here would be most appreciated!

TIA!

That's a fabulous and rare bag you have there. I would not recommend trying to water proof this leather, a good polish most likely already applied during H spa should help protect it from weather to some degree. Using additional polishes or conditioners after H spa will most likely remove any of the colored polish thay may have applied. Additionally, applying too much pressure on chevre can lead to a loss of texture or loss of graining on the this leather's surface.

The careful application of Meltonian All purpose Clean conditioner applied first to a soft lint free cloth and the carefully using that cloth with the product on it can help clean and further protect this leather from weather and stains. Take very good care not to use much of this product or you may end up with color loss , drip marks, streaks and /or splash marks, this product is very strong and mistakes will be permanent,so it you don't have nevres of steel and a steady hand don't do it.

Hi Docride

Just realised there are tiny black spots on my clemence bag. i have captured one of the spots located at the base of the bag. this is the biggest spot among the rest. the rest of the spots is the size of a pencil dot. would like to seek your advice on how the spots can be removed (if it is even possible), and how to prevent further spots from developing. i really have no idea how these spota developed in the first place. greatly appreciate your advice please. thanks.

Thanks for the speedy response Doc! I will continue with two more gentle applications of MD giving plenty of time for rest between. I think by the way the leather soaks up the product, two is a good number. I'll be back with pics too. Once again, thank you for your time and knowledge with my projects, you are a gem, a truly appreciative lady sits typing this message to you :)

Hmm, don't know what they are, looks like a pen dot mark you could try a soft pink eraser and see if it lifts off, take good care though too much rubbing and pressure will remove or push your grains down and make a more noticable blemish than you have now. OK?
As for preventing more? Don't know what your marks are so I can not answer this question.
