docride said:Hello, First off using baby wipes is NOT a good thing to do to finished leather and certainly not for exotic skins.
Dd you just wipe the bag down and buff with a shine cloth? Or shoes shne cloth? That should be all you need to do...
Yes there are other things you can do but honestly this is a great start let me know how the shine cloth does for you...OK?
Thanks, Doc! I've been wiping it down with the felt cloth that came with the bag but will hunt down an unused shoe shine cloth in the house. Will let you know how it goes.
docride said:Your fely cloth should be just fine..Is it not fixing the issues? Also there is a difference between wiping down and buffing..Have you buffed the areas yuo are concerned about?
Dear Docride, I am in desperate need of your advice. I have purchased a vintage Kelly in "indigo" (or at least I think its indigo). The previous owner told me that the owner before her has brought the bag to Hermes Spa for touch up (the bag is over 50 years old). The problem is that the bag leaves blue traces on light-coloured clothing
My questions are:
- Is this type of colour transfer possible if the bag has been to a spa?
- Can I do something about it? Like polishing or removing the excess dye. I really love this bag, and would like to keep it.
Thank you in advance!![]()
Hi Docride
I've bought this well used Kelly bag and I would like to redye the bag. Mr. Hofflin from Talon Rouge Paris uses "Saphir teinture française" for coloring Hermès bags but those are mainly Togo leather bags...the one I have bought is Courchevel leather...I was thinking on using Fiebings Prof. Oil Dye. Do you have any suggestions what dye to use? Do you think it would be possible to dye the Kelly in a dark burgundy color or is only dark brown or black possible with the ground color from my bag?
Thanks for Doc...
Rebecca
This isn't color transfers per say (where color from your clothing has transafered to your bag.. what it sounds liek you have is polish coming off... You can just clean off the blue Polish and apply a neutral or clear polish instead. No worries. Would you liek some instructions for cleaning off the old polish? Or you can just get to sme serious buffing and buff off the excess polish. Let me know.
Hi Doc, I found a shoe shine cloth and buffed, but it didn't do anything. I tried to take a photo to show you but it didn't come out well. It's basically like a film of something covering the leather, probably from lotion or sweat on my hand. It's not super obvious but does make the leather not shiny. Is there any product I can use on it? I don't want to send it for spa cos I see this as a recurring problem and also don't want to part with it for 3-4 months :0( thanks so much, Doc!
Docride, thank you sooooooooooooo much, I am so relieved to hear that!Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I forgot to mention that it's box calf leather, maybe it will make a difference in deciding how to proceed? But I would love to hear the instructions on how to remove the old polish and how to buff the leather, if you have some spare time. I live in Europe, so I will just try to find products with the same active ingredients as you use in the USA.
Marveloius news start with a gentle cleaning with the Lexol PH leather wipes taking care to not over wet the bag. Follow directions on the container. Note that any areas of waer may become darker but should lighten up a bit once dry.Doc, both my products and my Kelly are now in the same place, finally! I have Lexol PH wipes, Tarrago dye & shoe cream in amber brown, brown sugar and natural, and a shine brush.
Here's the link to the pics to refresh your memory as to what this bag needs. I await your advice and direction!

Shiney reptile skins always seem to have this happen, with Hermes exotic skins such as Crocodile or Lizard or Alligator I do not recommend you use any product your self esp if you want Hermes to work on your bag..too many things can go wrong with products on these skins. I am sorry I couldn't advise you with a magic trick or potion. I would say you might want to avoid touching this bag with oils or creams if possible.
