Hi Everyone - this is my FIRST post on Hermes. I am normally all over Chanel & Dior, and my closet does reflect that. I've had a tough time attaching to any Hermes (Kelly, Birkin, Constance, Jypsiere, Evelyne just don't speak to me) BUT I've been drawn to the Toolbox 20 for a bit. I just ordered the black swift online (I don't live near a boutique), and have NO idea what to expect. I have fun, edgy Chanels (mostly a bunch of boys) and Diors with studs and fun hardware. I am worried Hermes will be too understated for me, BUT at the same time, I am drawn to a bit of hardware and structure with refinement. I have collected a bunch of Fendi straps over the last couple of years (I do love mixing things up), and wonder how these would look on this bag also. I don't carry large bags - old medium boys, medium lady Diors, etc - so I think this bag is a good size for me. Any thoughts or advice from you Hermes veterans is much appreciated!!

As with most Hermes bags, the toolbox is very understated. I wear mine almost everyday. Having said that, you might find it to be too understated for you. A fendi strap will definitely make it edgier though so that would be a good combo.
One thing I would say though is that Hermes has a way of working out with whatever your style is. Before Hermes, all my Chanels are black and all these Hermes colors have found its way into my mostly black and grey wardrobe. I'm pretty sure it will work out fine if you decide to keep it.

Hi TracySH, Congratulations on your first Hermes bag! I love the TB- it's a beautiful and very easy to use handbag. I use a black Fendi flower strap and a pink Fendi python strap for my TB 26 swift black and get compliments all the time. The TB in size 20 is gorgeous.
I am glad you change up the straps! I am not a twilly person really, so changing the straps is a way to express more of an individual style. I am hoping I love it!! Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you for responding. I hope I absolutely LOVE it (for the price I am thinking I need to want to marry it kind of), but I am also prepared for sort of being underwhelmed too. I have gone from all these bags, like LOTS of them, that are quirky and fun and really pop and stand out (tweeds, iridescents, hardware, chains, studs, metallics, colors, etc) to seeking out more basic, timeless colors and styles. Like I mentioned above, changing some straps allows for some quirkiness without spending a load of $$ on a quirky bag. I see H as the epitome of elegant refined classics, but am unsure if it will be edgy enough for me. DEFINITELY cool casual for my lifestyle, fingers crossed :)

So, I've ordered (and am waiting for, currently in US customs in LA) 2 Toolbox 20's, Noir and Etoupe swift, new & unused but from a reseller in Japan (Yochika - has anyone on this thread ordered from them? I know they have pretty decent reviews). Hoping they won't be stuck for too long. Alas, will be my first Hermes.
