I just been to japan 2 weeks ago. the Ginza hermes store is amazing.. i cannot believe i saw over 10 birkins display on the 4th floor.

I remember i saw the 2 tone, blue jeans, beige, etoupe, black, brown, pink and a few more which i cannot remember as the colors are very similar.

I didnt check the price but i was told for birkin 30, it is around 900000 yen.

and they have a huge collection on accessiores and other bags! definately worth a visit!!

and in terms of 2nd hand store, they are all around ikebukuro or shinjuku. I remembered a saw a garden party for 40000 yen? ! ( i am not sure how come that one is so cheap) and also a birkin 30 for 60000 yen

apart from those 2, the prices for other are quite expensive.

Thank you Kipp for the great information. Tokyo is a lovely place to go. But unfortunately, last time I went, I did not have much time to visit the resellers. The Ginza Hermes was amazing, with tons of new bags on display.

:ty:for the extensive information on H shopping in Tokyo, Kipp!!

Although Tokyo is a H wonderland, I must caution everyone on the prices. At the boutiques, you'd probably have to shell out 20% or more than what you'd have to pay in the US. It can get pretty expensive with the resellers as well -- higher than most premium sellers on eBay. There are however, certain "steals" such as used bags, but even those are quite pricey in comparison to ones in the US or Europe. But if you are looking for a rare gem or a unique piece (tri-color croc kelly or even the Barenia, Tokyo is deifintely the place to be.

That's just my 2 cents (I'm in Tokyo more than half of the time during the year) :amuse:

Thanks Twigz, I should have been more clear about the pricing in Tokyo!
I just got off the plane so I'm a little brain-dead, but wanted to respond that I agree, the boutique prices are much higher in Japan than in the US, and the resellers of new bags also are as high or higher than those in the US (e.g. Atour, L'Ecrin, in Roppongi). However, visiting them is great for looking at everything that you have never seen before (deciding upon leathers, colors of exotics, etc...). Obviously, if money is no object and you want instant gratification for a very rare item, Tokyo is wonderful.

However, for pre-owned bags, as I said, to me the prices were surprisingly decent in many cases. For example, at BrandOff, the actual price was much much less than the labeled price (for pre-owned), and at other places listed, I found very reasonable prices for very good to excellent condition pieces (between 5.5K-7K US for 35 Birkins---I thought that was reasonable, is it not?). I expected not to be able to afford things at all and was surprised.

Maybe the global economic downturn has affected some of the resellers to reduce prices. That certainly seemed to be the case at BrandOff--he kept on dropping the prices, and even more when my husband accompanied me!

Yes, Zenith! And I was so lucky---they had a great almost completely new toile and barenia 35 Birkin with PHW and I just casually mentioned that I wanted a Birkin in all barenia. The manager/owner (?) pulled mine out of the closet to show me and said it was on hold for someone until the next day (Sunday). I told him I'd buy it, but that we were leaving on Sunday. So he told me to give him until 6pm. We went back at 6pm (Saturday) and he sold it to me! Also, it came in a big Hermes box and bag (being sent home as we speak...). It was just a great experience!!!

Such great luck finding the Barenia kipp and getting the whole works as well, it's meant to be yours!! The reseller prices you mentioned earlier ain't terribly out of this world either. I can't wait to hit Tokyo again!!

Thanks, Kipp! So helpful for my next trip - wish I'd had the list then. I was just there in October, but didn't end up coming home with a "new" bag... even though DH was really willing to let me pick something out. Guess I felt bad after shelling out the price of a new Birkin for 5 days of luxury hotels!

kipp, there are definitely great pieces out there from resellers in Japan! Look at what you scored!! I also think the current economic downturn has something to do with the price drop. Though it's a rare sight, I'm glad you caught on the wave!!
