Hermes store purchase vs. new from reseller

I will buy from a reseller as long as the markup is reasonable. Trying to wait for the store to offer me the exact piece that I want is like winning a lottery. And before you know it, the money spent on unnecessary purchases and the extra trips to the store to show your loyalty is not worth the effort. There are also more reasonable price brand new bags being offered now by resellers due to the slowdown of the luxury market.

I agree! I have spent so much more with the boutiques few years back, and I usually don't get what I wanted. Now I only buy stuff I really want from boutique, if they don't give me the bag I want, I find it through resellers.

But for someone that's not too picky about color and size, its worth trying, size 32 and 35 are usually not hard to get at boutiques.

For B/K and items that are available at H stores, I only buy from H stores or h.com. This includes my home store and stores I visit during vacations/trips. The only items I will buy from resellers are items that are no longer available from H stores.

I buy what I want and I don't care if it's retail or reseller. If there is a minor markup on a brand new bag that I really want, I am fine with it, but I'd prefer a bag that's not new in box for less - since, like a car, once it's out of the box the premium drops dramatically.
The in-store "experience" is not worth any kind of waiting or game-playing for me. If it's available from one of my stores, awesome. If it's hard to find and on my wishlist, it's proced right and a time where I'm willing to make a large purchase -wherever it is -I grab it.

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure whether I can ask this question here... But, I really enjoyed reading the conversations and it was helpful for me to really figure out what I wanted: Kelly 28 Black Box Sellier w/ GHW. (It's a ultimate dream bag for me!)
So, I was searching online, since there are not many luxury consignment shop in Vancouver, Canada, and it is so hard to find good condition of the Vintage one from so many reseller websites and eBay.
Then, I just came to a conclusion that getting a brand new from reseller might be the way to go. I mean, I should probably wait and research more bc it's a big purchase!!
But the Vintage Kelly bag which is good condition is almost CAD $9k-10k or hard to find good condition one, while the brand new one is around CAD$15K-20K. Both cases the price is insane even I know that it's hard to find one in the boutique and very popular one.
Do you guys think it is still better to go with secondhand one? Do you guys think the markup for the brand new one is reasonable???

Thanks!

Not sure what your relationship is with H, but a BBK is pretty difficult to get from a boutique even for a VIP. If budget allows and you can find a reputable reseller, that might be the way to go if you don't have a strong existing relationship with a particular H boutique.

Thanks for reply.
My mom has some relationship with H in Vancouver, but I don't. Yeah, it's true. I was planning a trip to Paris, but even there is zero chance for me to get BBK from SFH, right?
I do have savings, but it's pretty big purchase. That's why I was wondering it is really that worth to get BBK. I know it's my call.....
Anyway, I appreciate your input!! :)

This is the brand new one that I found. Do you think it's way overpriced?
Is the box calf leather still good quality as Vintage ones from 1950s-1990s?

I would appreciate your experience or information!
Thank you!

Sorry I forgot the link.

Thanks for reply.

I mean FSH.

Also, this is the posting that I meant earlier.

Thanks!!

No dear, you will not get a BBK from FSH. If your heart is set on this spec, get it from a reseller.
Oh Thank you so much for your reply.
Yeah, you're right. But, it's almost a double of retail price. I don't know whether You could check the link above, the brand new bbl(2016) is almost USD$20k....
I have been looking for used ones from online, but the condition is not so great. Maybe I am quite picky about the bag...

Please look through the reference threads about getting your first bag. You won't be able to special order anything from Hermes without an extensive purchase history and as others have noted, your chances of getting this particular bag from FSH are very slim. You should also consult sold items and completed auctions to see final selling prices and then only you can determine your tolerance on price. No one else can decide for you if the price is too high/just right.

Thanks a lot for advice. Yeah, I have been reading the reference threads which is really exhaustive. I know you're a Hermes guru, so whenever you see a newbie like me ask the question, which is possibly answered in the threads before, it might be redundant and annoying... I am so sorry.
And I didn't know about the auctions and sold items, so thank you so much for that information! That must be really good guideline for me to figure out whether the reseller price actually reasonable or not. That's what I needed!!! :)
Awesome!!

It's not annoying; just trying to guide you to the areas of the forum with the best information for you to make a good decision. You've settled on a leather, bag and size that is not often offered in store even to good customers so that factor alone will also increase the resale prices being asked. At that point, figure out if the condition and price work for you and do your research on the seller to make sure it is someone reputable with a good return policy if needed. And get it authenticated first if you go the reseller route. You are also probably best off selecting a reseller in your own country so that you don't have to worry about duties and taxes.

Oh, mistikat!
Thank you soooo much for this guidance.
I felt like I was lost in this forum in the ocean of information, but you finally shines light to the right path for me!!!! I will definitely follow your advice.
I am really really grateful for you for saving me from paying duties and taxes, which will be a lot. I really hope that there is a good on in Canada...
