Hi,

I'm a male and am not too familiar with women's scarves, but am looking for suggestions as a present for my mom.

My parents were immigrants from Asia and we didn't have much money growing up, so my mom wears this fake monogram LV scarf she got from some back alleyway in SE Asia. Just got a job as an investment banker and want to get her an actual Hermes scarf for her bday coming up.

What's a "classic" Heremes scarf? I looked at the site and see so many options to choose from.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

You are so sweet and thoughtful. I agree with others that it would be best to go into a store (during a weekday when it is not as busy, if possible) and talk to the silk manager. Tell him/her about you mother: colors she tends to wear, clothing “style”, height, and on what occasions she wears a scarf ( soon to be replaced by your gift). You will be shown several options and will likely know the right one immediately. After you give your mother her gift, please introduce her to the scarf threads on TPF. Perhaps we will see her modeling it on one of the threads. Good luck - you can’t go wrong with H, especially with someone who already enjoys wearing a scarf!

Good for you! What a lovely way to celebrate your new job by honoring your mom. I'm sure you want her to have the gift to open on her birthday, but you do have 30 days to exchange a scarf, which would maybe give you time to go with her (if she doesn't love your choice and is willing to tell you so) to pick one out together.
One important thing is to be sure she will wear it, and not be intimidated or in awe of it. Maybe let her know this could become a birthday habit, lol!!

How sweet. I personally would thing Brides de Gala ist one of the "Classics". Its original design is from 1957 and is re-invented on a regular basis. If you want your mother to pick a scarf, Hermès offers gift cards, too, at least where I live. So you can load up the money onto the gift card and let her choose the one she like the best without knowing how much it is.

Hey!
Just wanted to compliment you on being an amazing son :) it really moved me - having immigrant parents myself.
I would also suggest - make a day out of it!
The classic ones are the ones with the horses and/or bridles on it - and 100% silk twill 90x90 cm scarves. but even there, to have someone look at your mothers style and colouring would make a positive difference! And some of the other patterns became classics quite quickly as well...

Best of luck choosing!

Was at my store today and they received one Animapolis- CW 5 really loved the colour combos more light blue/pink as per usual nothing like the Hermes pics but decided to wait and see more CWs. Sorry could not sneak a pic :( Also learned that Kawa Ora is designed by a well known Maori tattoo artist. Definitely excited about that one!

Good intel! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I looked through the site a bit more and then went to the Hermes store nearby to check out a couple scarves that seemed interesting. I'm going to go with the Ex-Libris Scarf 90 in Mauve.

There were a couple suggestions to take her there and let her choose. While I think would be the best way to make sure she gets something she wants, I'm actually taking the family out for dinner (to Nobu Malibu for those from SoCal), and would like to surprise my mom with it there. I think the compromise would be to tuck in a gift receipt with the scarf.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions!
