Oh my... I'm really shocked and dismayed at this whole situation. But I get it. It's not personal, it's just the prudent thing to do to stay away from any copyright law disputes.

It's not really good business and community outreach, but it's not really about that. It's a legal thing re distribution, waiver, and ownership of images. It could be viewed as a kind of business decision in the sense that following the law and advice of counsel helps the business avoid liability or loss of intellectual property.

It is a bummer, though. I guess we're going to have to learn about the new season in stores like normal citizens now.
I understand it too but as business practice it is pretty authoritarian. I am rather scunnered at the heavy-handedness of it.
Given we are not looking at producing fakes and have always been eager to give them our hard-earned cash thanks to what we see in these pictures perhaps they could have got in touch with TPF directly via a polite and elegantly-written letter/email. We would have respected such an approach but this just puts the boot in and shows they don't give a monkey's bahookie about the rather large and faithful customer base found here.
One last thought - have they really just picked up on the fact that we have used their pics for planning and researching forthcoming seasons? After all these years?
I think I am feeling a bit peri this morning but I really don't feel like giving them my money any more.

I don't know or care what H's motivation was... But I will tell you that this has chilled my excitement and enthusiasm of purchasing new scarves. Combine that with the price increase and I think my days of perusing TPF will slow to a stop. For certain, it will stop my purchase of new scarves unless I wander into a store when on travel. We don't have one locally and the selection of scarves online is fairly dreadful and the color representation (as everyone knows) is way off.

⬆️ I am really disheartened. I do understand the desire to keep designs secret until they are actually released, but once in the public domain, they can be viewed, and presumably shared. The pre-release pictures are typically from press photos and simply fuel the hype. While H would not want folks to keep buying the current season until the next season has launched....i believe that most of us are sensitive to that and have mostly completed any current season buys, heck, it is January and I am done for the season most likely!

I am tempted to stop posting photos in spite but ultimately that will only hurt the members, which is who I try to benefit by sharing! Sharing is caring...right????:hugs:

Perhaps @Vlad can get some guidance as to when it is permissible to post pictures available on the H website. Hopefully we can come to some amicable conclusion that satisfies both sides. I do believe that H has a lot to lose from this, but I am sure that they know more than I do.

Hmph!!!!

Same here! When I see a design I like, I want to see all existing CWs and choose witch one I want, otherwise I would buy one and later see another one I would like better. Considering how much this things cost, that’s the least H can do, is offering information. If I don’t have the whole array to choose from, I just won’t buy. The arduous work of the members posting here, giving us information, is free publicity, the kind a company can’t even pay for! I hope you (H) are reaching this: Merci H, for giving my wallet a brake and for “punishing” your year long most fervent fans, followers and collectors....
This is such a loss, ESPECIALLY since the all-en site has been abandoned. I just don't think H is interested in archives or history or actual collectors.

Very very true! The all-en site is gone, before that and before tpf I had to go off of those books of all the colorways at the stores IF they got them in! Does anyone remember those?

Using copyrighted material for profit without permission IS against the law. Using images posted by a company on their public sites for education purposes (a forum dedicated to the education of H’s S/S 19 scarves) shouldn’t be illegal.
And, I don’t know how much more we could be crediting H than them being used in a thread on a blog titled Hermès S/S 19 scarves.
This thread focuses on all of us discussing H products. No one is using them for gain, except to gain knowledge, which would fall under the Fair Use laws, IMO.

I probably didnt make myself clear. The photo credit should be on the page with the photo. As in

That was actually not the point they were trying to make. It was directed at pics of UNRELEASED scarves. Nothing to do with photo credit.

I understand. I see your point. But I still think the photo credit should be noted, even if the scarves haven’t been released yet.

Let’s agree to disagree. When all is said and done, it’s not worth getting into it. :hugs:
