Hi girls, yes my friend is a tourist and yes, I think they assess the client before offering. My friend also declined the B as it was a 30, she needs B35. The color, I can't say, as i did not ask. Will try to reach her and let you know if the color was a less popular one. :)

That will be really sad for H Singapore if they make locals or Singapore residents spend to hit a quota to be offered a bag. Yet make it a lot easier for tourists to buy a B or K. Normally in most European countries , priority goes to the locals and regulars.
Yes it will be very sad. Having said that, I have seen a slow tide of change in the last year and a half. A friend was offered a b/k as a walk-in in Harrods; another as a walk-in in one of the Italian stores. All without prior purchase history and rather easily. Have not heard of any locals scoring a b/k without building a profile but looking at the posts above, I wonder whether Hermes is changing their strategy here too.

oh @bagidiotic my SA checked and said she couldn't transfer any of the Apple watches to the store - she said if I really wanted, she could find a nice SA over at the other branch. And apparently it's now Taka which is selling, no longer Scotts. Strange but I see no reason why she wouldn't transfer for me if she could.

Kkho - I think the only certainty about H rules in SG is that its arbitrary. I have seen coveted bags shown to tourists. I can't say if they were bought or not - that would have turned me into a stalker. Nevertheless, it is what it is. (and by coveted I mean like black poro B/K ghw!?!?!?) I've come to not accept anything that is said to me without a sack of salt. So I don't take the H experience too seriously. Maybe there is a policy of kindness and generosity towards the tourist - and a true attempt to keep locals loyal as well as to imbibe the lifestyle. As much as it's irksome, I get it - of course (disclaimer) that's my take on this.

I don't really think we know much at all about the B getting offered at MBS - hearsay! So many possibilities ie it could have been as pointed out above, a 'rejected' B. Was there a B at all? Could it have been that a B could have been bought/offered if said tourist spent X amount but she declined as said B was not what she was after. So many theories, ha! Nevertheless, good luck to those trying. It is Christmas time, maybe wishes do come true!

Well, I find this discussion quite interesting.

Last year or early this year during the Liat renovation, I was shopping in their temporary setup when an American lady came in. She was a walk in and didn't know anyone. She bought shoes and I think scarves and maybe some jewelry. Then she asked if they had a B or K. She was told that there were no B or K and they were very difficult to come by.

Shortly before her arrival though, both I and an Indonesian woman were both offered Bs, both of which were declined.

My SA noticed that I had overheard and we moved to the jewelry area and she said "we don't like to offer to tourists." Here is the interesting part---I am not Singaporean and I don't live in Singapore! I quickly pointed out that I too am a "tourist" and I had chatted with the Indonesian lady and she lived in Jakarta and was also a "tourist". My SA explained that although that is true, there are several clients from neighboring countries who are considered as "locals" because we are frequently in Singapore (about 4-5 times per year for me), and we have shopped from there for several years. Whether this was the truth or an effort to explain away the randomness of it all, I do not know.

It seems to me that at MBS they may also be more lenient because they have the casino and people who win big want to spend their earnings.

At the end of the day, I think H has some guidelines but everything is flexible depending on how much you spend or whether they like you. I feel like the only rule with H is that their rules are meant to be broken.

Exactly! It is random. The SA was obviously fibbing. You and friend are tourists but he/she attempted to construct you as 'local' - it is based on randomness. I wonder some times if they are inviting an inevitable lawsuit.

I too felt that it was a valiant effort to explain away this embarrassing situation. However, I also did not get offered a B or K from just a pair of shoes. I would say I spent around 20k or so before anything was offered.

I am inclined to believe they will simply sell to whom they want, when they want.

Maybe they assess clients based on their looks and what they wear. My friend did not ask for a B or K at that time, but she's carrying one. That's just my assumption. Well, its OK if i can't get one. I know how hard it is to get a B or K. :)

Well, what can I say? My conclusion from above discussion: they seldom sell a b/K to someone brand new to them.. unless the SA feels they can be converted to regular clients or they fell short of certain sales quota in certain product lines.

I am a new H regular sg client. Only started shopping in SG only this year.. and it was also out of curiosity over the B/K craze initially.. but I fell in love with this brand's scarves and bracelets first long before I looked at bags..

Even though I shopped all over H stores world-wide, my first time buying locally was intimidating as I do not know the local SA.. I walked off so many times as I dun click with the right SA.. until the right SA came along, I refused to shop locally..am glad I held out for my SAs who now know my taste well..

And yup.. many regulars are from the region who shop in local H stores.. so are considered regular..

I guess the right strategy is to use 1 coveted item to pull in sales for the other items.. interesting marketing strategy actually!

My SA shared that for a B/K, try to get H item across different departments. She qouted me e.g clic h bracelets that I like - do not get more than or equal 3, or do not keep buying other bags when you are trying to meet the quota to get K/B.

Try getting different things like their shoes, parfum, bracelets, scarves, etc. She stopped me from buying other H bags when she saw my H history. I bought a Pico and GP at her store.

I think she stopped you buying more bags as bags do not count towards the quota at all in general - if they did, loads of people would be able to get a b/k very easily given how much the other bags cost. Surprised to hear about the tip on not buying more than 3 of a particular thing. Good to know!

I asked why I cannot get another bag and she told me it will jeopardise my record in order to achieve a B/K. I guess the magic word is 3. [emoji23]

E.g clic h not more than 3 (even different color), KDT not more than 3, any bags not more than 3, etc.

Nevertheless, I enjoy and appreciate H products! [emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]
