Interesting sums meowcsj! A birkin 35 in Australia is in the A$12,XXX mark so lets say A$12,800 (I know a togo 30 is A$11,700) and converting roughly to SGD using 15% and removing the 10% GST would make the birkin around SGD10,120. Hmmm. I thought Paris would be a lot cheaper!

I don't know how your arrived at your figures, but 1 AUD = 1.1554 SGD right now, according to Bloomberg. And since credit cards give much poorer exchange rates than interbank rates, AUD12,800 would be closer to SGD15,000 on your credit card bill.

While your conversion might have been valid even as recently as a couple of months back, it is no longer true. There was even an article in the Straits Times a week or so ago about the AUD surging ahead. Plus MAS is trying to keep SGD low.

just a few thoughts to share since i just bought several pieces from FSH (a HAC40 and a Birkin 30 in Ostrich) :woohoo:

1. Birkin 30-35 is a hit or miss. You should plan to be there first thing in the morning when they open since they get only a few pieces every day and they are gone within hours. I arrived at 10:30 on a weekday and snatched one of the two Birkin 30 they have. I assume the other will be gone within an hour. This only means that you cannot be picky about what you want, ie. leather nor color. If you meet one sales who did not even check the computer for stock, walk around the store for awhile and come back to the leather department and try someone else again!

2. Hermes processes their own VAT which is a flat 10% refund. You cannot get cash refund and it is only refunded to your credit card after you stamp it at the custom when you leave EU. Thus, I do not think sending by post or any other courier is an option since you need the stamp at the custom on the form (unless Fedex can clear the VAT refund for you). And trust me, custom WILL ask to see the Birkin before they stamp it!

3. If you are not set on Birkin, they do have lots of Kelly 28 which is also popular with Asian ladies.

4. Avoid FSH on Saturdays... go at your own risk! :graucho:

5. If all else fails, there is always the Birkin 30 in fuchsia croc with diamonds for a cool Euro 13,000. George V has another one in black. At those prices, I assume they should still be there... but with Paris in June, you never know!

6. Tokyo is 5% VAT, and they deduct it straight away from the sales price on the spot if you show them your passport. (was just there in Jan 09 looking at Birkin also)

If you NEED or WANT it now, Tokyo is probably your best bet. Hermes in Ginza is in many ways just as impressive as FSH, not to mention the gazillon Hermes shops they have in Tokyo department stores. If you can wait, then a trip to Paris is nice, especially now the weather is so nice and it will be nice to go to the sale in June! #

Waitlist in Asia is a bit ridiculous since by the time it is your turn, you would pay the same price as in Tokyo from 2 years ago!

A$12,800 is SGD14,848 - 10% VAT = S$13,363.20

AUD $1 = SGD1.16

I dont know if I am correct, but you should add 15% to AUD price for SGD price, rather than minus 15% to AUD price for SGD price.

I had called hermes to enquiry about the waiting list. The sales staff told me it is closed. Do i have to go down the boutique personally then? If i can be on the waiting list, can i choose the color or size and leather i want?
My friend told me about the Ginza shop selling birkin, the bags should be authentic right?
Hmm... i want a blue jean toga 30. :)
Thanks for any advice

2 Fridays ago, I went with a friend to put waiting list for Birkins 35 black togo at Taka. It costs S$14,000 here, thus why make us have the thoughts of flying to Paris to get one.

The bag i want @ Ginza cost $18000 odd.
Hmm... what to do?
Should i trust my friend and the Singpost?
Or just buy my Chanel?
Headache @-@

Trust yourself.

Last month, my companion helped to buy 3 LV bags for her friend's sister in Paris. End up the friend's sister suspect that the LV bags are FAKE!!

It really depends how must trust you have in your friend to avoid having recieve the bag and suspect it might be a fake.

Also, I guess in-shop modelling may help to make a good decision, the colour and size that you like may not be the most suitable for you.

There is a Northwest Airline promotion, flying to Tokyo only S$462nett. The flight is about 6hours.

You may also do the same thing as me, purposely fly to Tokyo to get your HG.

Thanks Hanyeu, Japan VAt is 5%, I mistook it as 7% Singapore GST.

Revised rate

Birkins 35 in Singapore is SGD14,100

In Tokyo, 1,040,000Yen -5% VAT= SGD15,027

In Paris, 5700EURO - 9% VAT = SGD10,524

In Australia, AUD12,800-10% VAT = SGD13,363

Gathering from the informations, the chances of getting a Birkins in higher in Tokyo than in Paris. Although getting in Tokyo is more expensive than in Singapore, like what Hanyeu, the price of Singapore Birkins 2 years later should be equivalent or more expensive than the price in Tokyo now.

Nevermind, i think it is as hard to score a Birkin in Australia as in Singapore.

Thus is either Paris or Tokyo.

If you just want a Birkin, and nothing else but a Birkin, Tokyo is definitely much better. Birkins are sitting on the shelf, something that is not very common in Paris.

Yes, you pay a higher premium, but you are also more likely to get the choice of what you want. It's a trade-off that only you can decide if it's worth it - lower price to get whatever you want, or higher price to get exactly what you want?

I did not step in Tokyo Hermes when I was there early this year and last year. But as said, flying there to get Birkins is not expensive, and the amount paid shall be equivalent to the price in Singapore 2 years later.

I am flying to Paris as I wanted to experience the Paris sales period.

If I did not score one in Paris, I might consider flying to Tokyo for one. Though it will be my third time there. Or it is as readily available in Osaka or Hokkaido?

Actually, I was replying directly to the OP quoting what you'd said... but you raised very good reasons to go too. Parisian sales is something that I'd want to experience, but never had a chance to. Not to mention the endless good food there....

flying here and there to try to score a birkin seems like a lot of effort. Since you already put your name down at the store, and it's for the leather/colour combi you want, maybe it's a good idea to just wait for it?

No. I believe it is easier to score a Birkin in Australia than Singapore. I have never seen a Birkin on the shelf in Singapore (I live here), but I have in Australia (on holiday...).

If you are a walk-in customer, the SA is unlikely to show you a Birkin in SG too, but I know you can be shown one in Australia, at least in Sydney and Melbourne.
