I'm hoping I can get some info on a scarf I bought today. I haunt second hand clothing stores looking for bargains, and today I found an Hermes plissé scarf. I have no way of knowing the origin or authenticity.

I wonder if it's authentic or not (how can I tell?), and if it's authentic, when was it issued (original was 1952, reissued in 1993).

The scarf is Courses a Chantilly by Maurice Taquoy.

The design is exactly the same as the first one illustrated on the following page, but it is repeated four times on my scarf. The scarf is 90cm square, and is plissé.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum bopeep! I can't tell which issue year yours is, but I don't think fakers master the art of plisséing a scarf! Hopefully someone else can chime in..

Yes, unfortunately there are fake plisses, not very neatly pleated, though, but easy to confuse with a real one whose pleats are not as crisp anymore

Plui d Etincelles is one wherer there are many fake plisses

I don't think ? I'm allowed to post the URL of a faker site, but anyone can PM me. I find it useful to see the fakes in order to avoid them but also to be able to appreciate how wonderful the real ones really are

The RTW group sometimes does that multiplication - putting 4 on a scarf , but I don;t think it was part of the regular collection, just part of the Pret a Porter accessories

Thanks Mai Tai! I was hoping that plissé scarves were not usually fakes. The folds look well done, and not likely to fall out quickly, but as this is my first plissé scarf, I'm not sure I would know the difference.

Here are some pics of the scarf (I apologise for not posting them yesterday, but I couldn't find my camera charger!). Hopefully they will give enough info to date the scarf. It appears to be in great condition, so I am assuming it is a reissue (an 50+ year old scarf would show it's age more?).

The design itself. the colours are fairly accurate here:

Sure, just wait a bit for PM

The RTW group has often reduced the scarf designs and tiled them on fabric. That way, the designs are not quite so ginormous and more approprite for clothing

Thanks marietouchet. I will pm you if that is ok? I would like to see the differences between real ones and good fakes, so that I don't get duped!

Hello,

Has anyone seen this scarf before? I found it on a website for roughly 40GBP and was wondering when it is dated... since it looks authentic and the seller said it was pristine.

Many thanks! :)

^ Never seen it before, all I know it is a very rare one from the early 1960s - 1963 perhaps?. I'm not an authenticator, but it looks good to me, and I don't think it has ever been faked (at least not to this high standard). It's a steal for £40 (esp. if it's pristine), I'd run for it!!!

(edit - oops, cross-posted with MaiTai)

Thank you so much for the info, I look forward to receiving it now :D

I've also emailed Hermes support so hopefully they'll be able to provide more details on it - though they usually take a while...

Help! Need info about shawl. Posted on another thread in 10/08 prior to my noticing your site. The attached photos are of an Hermes shawl I purchased at Beverly Hills, CA Hermes in the 70s. Need info about the shawl's style, designer, fabric content, etc. Unfortunately, there is no label. Is there an Hermes product pictorial library/database and/or an Hermes employee/retiree that can provide me with information about this shawl? 2007_1021hermes0002.jpg 2007_1021hermes0007
