Hello dear scarfies, my mother-in-law just gave me this unknown H Scarf. It’s a 90 cm, probably in wool étamine. The fabric is quite thick. The colors are more vivid then in the pics. I did not found any title or signature. It belonged to my husband’s great-mother, born in 1913. She used to say it was the oldest she had. TIA.

Interesting! Anxious to learn more. Did I read somewhere that wool was used during the war, because silk was scarce?

Interesting information ! On the other side, I have a precious blouse sewn by a great aunt whose silky fabric is supposed to come from a parachute (maybe a family legend?). It was during WWII or just after.

The silk was used for parachutes during the WWII and couldn't be used for any other purpose. So Hermès had to use wool for their scarves instead.

@QueenieQ I dug in my archives and found this scarf as Collection Equestre edited in 1945 in two colour ways - White/Red and White/Black. I don't know from where I got the information.

I do recognise the scarf and wrote down a different name and date - 1937 SELLERIE - I too did not record the provenance of my info, probably a web site for which the link is long broken anyway
The early scarves were produced were produced over long periods, sometime over a decade, they were not pegged to a particular collection as they are now, so 1930s - 1940s seems good to me , I dont get hung up on EXACT dates for the early ones
I honestly dont know which name is correct - the only correct answer would have to come from H itself - I would go with their moniker no matter how many sites have otherwise
As to the fabric ... dunno .. I own several, they have a unique feel, they are all blends IMHO, could be silk, cotton, linen, wool in there , the funny cloth ones were NOT produced using the same blend/unusual fabric, also there were trade name blends Vyella (sp?) used by H, but dont know if this is one of them , you would need a CSI to do a DNA analysis to know for certain LOL

That’s interesting, thank you. My mother-in-law thought the scarf was previous WWII.
Do you know if the same name could be used for different designs? I ask because after @Holsby ’s answer, I have made a quick search online for Collection équestre and found that a man 65 carré is named like this.

They have often reused names, mostly when the first design was not well known, as in this case
AND I do know of one other scarf commonly known as SELLERIE
Some scarves have several AKAs, depending on what you use as your source and the accuracy of their knowledge
Some scarf names have AKAs because they have gotten abbreviated/garbled on the web versus on the tags and receipts - tags have really short slots for the tags and clipping is common
