I recently picked up a picotin 26 and it has light cracking around the handles and edges at the opening of the bag. I’m considering sending it to the spa but would really like to try and get an idea of the price before I do so as I like to be prepared about the price! Has anyone had this type of work done that could share the price with me please?

When you send bags to the spa, it's been my experience that they give you an estimate of the cost of the repair work prior to doing it.

Thank you for the reply. Yes it’s my experience too, the reason I wanted to know in advance was that I don’t have a spa in my local store so it would have to go to Paris for assessment and I would hate to have to say no if the price was too high

It is difficult to get a clear idea of what work would be necessary without examining the bag.
'light cracking around the handles' does not seem to be serious and could be covered in the basic spa procedure, but it could be an indication of the need for more extensive work.
If you scour through this thread you might find something that matches what you think you need.
There is no substitute for a proper assessment; you will know exactly what is needed; the estimate will be without obligation; any inconvenience will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I had looked through the thread and unfortunately have not found anything that matched the work I think the bag needs. I think I’ll just send it to the spa and see what they say. Will post back about my experience.

If this is simply glazing or edge coating, I think it would not be expensive. But H spa takes a while

The item would not necessarily have to go to Paris. If you’re in the US, items for regular spa go to a location within the US. Usually only items with more difficult repairs go to Paris.

ETA: my recent post here explains my experience from the DC H.

ETA (again): This bag did not go to Paris

These are my recent spa costs on a birkin. (August 2023)
Clean $555
Re-glue handles $210
Re-stitch gussets $155
Replace turn lock. $355

In agreeing to the estimate, all I really wanted was to have the bag cleaned, but they would not take no for an answer on the rest of the work. They kept calling me back until I said yes to all of it. I think they would have let me pass on the turn lock, but claimed everything else was necessary to maintain the structure of the bag.

It was sent to LA. They quoted me a couple of months, but it was a year before I got it back. Having heard about the long times associated with spa work, I did not think twice until I hit the 1 year anniversary of dropping it off. I emailed them and inquired. It turned out it had been at the boutique for some time and they failed to notify me.

From a general viewpoint

Most people will have Hermes bags for a lifetime and that should put the short-term inconvenience of being without a bag into perspective.
Hermes is not looking for spa and repair work, so is unlikely to recommend unnecessary repairs/refurbishment.
If you have already invested a large amount of money in a bag, then it is important that its fabric and structure is maintained.

Thank you all for the replies. Im not in the US, I’m in Europe and there’s only one store in my country and it’s small. I have sent a bag to the spa before and it went Paris so I know this bag will go there too and it did take an age to come back. I didn’t mind as I’m out of the country for long periods so it’s out of sight out of mind. I totally agree Hermes bags are an investment and this is why I want to preserve it before it gets worse. I just don’t want the repairs to cost more than the bag!

At the moment the wear does not seem too bad, but it will eventually need attention.
We have no idea when you might be near your Hermes store. I would suggest that at the next opportunity you take it into the store and ask if there is someone who might be able to advise you about sending it to spa.
You will need to have decided upon a plan in advance as to whether you will be prepared to leave it or if you will take it away with you and seek a third party leather craftsperson.
You should expect to receive an obligation free estimate. That is the only way to get a proper idea of the costs involved. If you decide not to go ahead with the repairs your bag should be returned to you foc; you might feel a bit embarrassed; you will have been without your bag for a month or so; BUT you will have a clear idea of the situation.

Wow, can't believe they did that. Good thing you called.

hey lovely Hermès crew. I have seen a wonderful Kelly from 2006 in Box leather. In my dream specs. The only thing that bothers me are some serious scratches at the back (see attached). Would those be treatable by the Hermès spa? I'd be fine to still see slight scratches, but would need a (major) improvement to the current status...looking forward to your thoughts and input. xx
