Hermes Phone Orders

This is another one of those "it depends" situations that Hermes is known for! First-time/infrequent clients at a boutique will not be able to have a leather item shipped (no bags, no belts, no bracelets, etc.). So I guess it makes sense that an SA wouldn't even bother to discuss leather inventory over the phone, since in effect it is not available to the caller. BUT long-term clients (as in those whose store relationship pre-dates the shipping ban) can still get leather products shipped in many cases, with the approval of the manager. And it certainly might be possible to develop an ongoing relationship that will eventually allow phone purchases. Just takes time. And, of course, money. :p

+1, great response, Mindi and oh so accurate! :flowers:

I tried to use the Amex concierge service several years ago to obtain a Birkin...no dice. Don't know if things have changed since then...this was about 6-7 years ago.

I heard that their concierge service does not include H bags, at least not from the store.

The AMEX Concierge employees I've interacted with did not have the most professional demeanor but they did help me locate leather items for my husband globally. Never tried asking for bags.

I asked Amex Platinum concierge to get me into the Hermès museum at FSH and they couldn't even figure out what it was. I like the other benefits of the card but they can't handle unusual/hard requests.

It never hurts to try calling a store. You never know. I've been told that Hermes is slowly lifting the shipping restrictions on leather goods, although CDCs are quite sought after, so they may still be reserved strictly for in store customers. Another option may be to call the Hermes in Neiman Marcus. I'm not sure if they adhere to the same shipping policies that the boutiques have. Good luck!

European stores will ship SLGs and sometimes even bags if you have a house account. I don't think US stores will do this unless you come in and pay for the item in person (in which case they will send anything anywhere) - but I am sure exceptions are made for longtime clients.
It's entirely possible to get a helpful person on the phone, though, who will tell you what is in stock. They are very, very, very unlikely to say "I have a Birkin in the back" but they MAY tell you there is a CDC in stock and usually will tell you anything "normal" like a wallet, small bracelet, or an easy to find bag like a Garden Party. If you are local to the store they have an interest in getting you in, making a first sale (a commissioned one), and possibly acquiring a long-term customer.

According to my friends here in Europe, there are a few US stores which will still ship leather goods even to new customers so in typically mysterious Hermes fashion, "it depends..." (*apparently it even depends on which city you're calling from.)

I'm in Europe and I used to cold-call US stores when I wanted something specific that I'd read about in the inventory thread. A few years back I lucked out with H San Diego, a store I had never stepped foot in (my primary US relationship is with the Madison boutique). H San Diego was so easy to order from.

One thing to note, your location is crucial. If you are having items shipped to Paris or London, they usually process orders easily. If you are overseas and ordering from say, Prague (as my friend did), for some reason they will decline.

As I've written before, what also helps is when you call and ask for a specific item that you know is available (e.g. if somebody posts about it on the inventory thread.) I really doubt that any H SA will rattle off current inventory to a stranger on the phone but if you sound like you are serious about buying something that is available, they will usually be accommodating.

I guess it would also help to time your call, I don't call on weekends when I know the stores are busy.

Hi xoxo1858!
Are you calling an Hermes store directly or the Hermes website? For calls to stores, I know that they don't ship leather/exotic goods (bags, leather bracelets, belts, and SLGs) but if you are ordering from the website or calling hermes.com, they will ship these items.

My only experience with placing a phone order was to another Hermes store for silks and clic H bracelets.

You may want to call the stores directly to ask. Perhaps this policy has changed about leather goods.

Hope this helps!

Not in my area. They don't take phone order on any item even scarf. So sad.

Thanks for your reply. yes it is for a leather good (bag). of course the website doesn't have anything I want.

Some stores do ship overseas, I've had luck getting one US store (not a busy one) send me items including small leather goods and scarves (not bags which I've never ordered through them anyway.)

I think the answer to this is on a boutique-by-boutique basis.

From my experience, boutiques are however, picky about where you are located. The same boutique that agreed to ship to me (I had ZERO relationship with this particular store) turned down a good friend of mine who happened to live in a different country but same continent and they explained they can only send overseas to "select countries".

Most will not ship leather goods but there are a handful of franchised stores who sometimes make exceptions to this rather silly H rule. The boutique inside Neiman Marcus in Washington DC is one exception but there are a few others who I don't want to mention by name [so as to not shoot ourselves in the feet haha].

Hi.
Just to add to this thread with my own experience. There're couple stores I buy from in the US. Both ship, incl. bags, but they have to get permission from the store manager and also "corporate office." They have my cc info on file too. I think it depends on whether you have an established relationship with the SA's and manager of the store. Overseas I've had stores that will keep me in mind about some bag, shoes, etc. that are coming and actually will hold for me, give me a call, etc. If you've bought from them and you stop by the store enough -- they know you're a serious customer, so they tend to be more accommodating.
Good luck!

I live in a state with no Hermes store (sad for me) but I read the reviews of different boutiques and called one I thought I'd be happy with. I asked for a SA who would be willing to work with me remotely. They directed me to one, probably a newer SA, but he is very nice. He responds to me pretty promptly with emails and calls. He will ship anything to me under $1500 but nothing over that. He also sends me pictures of different products under that price point when I ask for them. It's great! No bag yet but he said I'd have to fly there when they have one for me. It'll be halfway across the country but worth it!

hello ladies. This is probably unlikely but do any of you have any experience with your SA shipping to an APO address? We're stationed overseas and Hermes.com is super firm about no APO shipping. The local Hermes boutiques set new highs for snobbery and unfriendliness.

If anyone is willing to share their SA contacts via PM, that would be greatly appreciated!

(mods feel free to move this post to an appropriate thread. sorry in advance:))
