Churva, my SA said that she could still ship scarves and non-leather items, just not leather goods.

Sigh. At this point, Im happily content with my 90cm collection.
Just starting with the 70's and perhaps the 140cm's. Just sad I cant even buy an agenda fr my SA. Not even the Dragon charm, LOL
I will have to find a better way to buy my goodies :laugh::laugh:

Well, at least we can still buy the 140cm's over the phone! I can't believe that they will not sell you a dragon charm ~ but I guess that is a "small leather good" :graucho:

Sorry for the mixed metaphors - but I think the sad truth is that H has created a monster and now is throwing the baby out with the bath water to try to fix it.

H is wildly sought after now because of young celebs who seem to be able to get whatever they want even though there is an inventory issue. And I think that a large segment of people who want H want it only because it is an "in" thing - and because it is the most expensive "in" thing. So, once you have your birkin or kelly, you too can live the celeb life. Of course, this success model will implode when the young celebs move on to something else.

But for now, given the huge demand, resellers have rushed in. You see the same thing with the designer lines for Target and H&M. Every launch there is a feeding frenzy for goods and then they show up for sale on the bay.

So, to counteract the reseller issue, it seems like H is viewing all loyal buyers as resellers if they don't walk into a store to buy. Most of us don't have time to continually visit a store unless we live right around the corner - or unless it is our business. So, who will have time to visit stores repeatedly? Resellers and their hired shoppers. So - bye bye babies (loyal shoppers) - resellers win.

Sad - but I agree that it will be much easier to just pay the premium and buy from a reseller. Saves on gas, tolls, train/plane tickets - not to mention time which is perhaps most valuable of all. And at least, in dealing with a reseller, you are dealing with someone who just wants to provide goods to buyers without making the buyers play ridiculous games first.

One of my most hated activities is buying a car as I hate the games and negotiations. I've always thought I'd happily pay someone to go do it for me. So, in a way, paying a reseller premium is money well spent to avoid the time-consuming, demeaning games. Not what I want - but it seems to be where we are right now.

Tedhugh, I think you've made some very good points.

I used to be loathe to order on Hermes.com because of the shipping cost until I realized it was less expensive for me than the cost of driving 180 miles to and from the boutique plus paying for parking, lunch, etc. I just wish their inventory was better.

This afternoon I was told by a store at which I have always shopped that because I live in another state they can no longer assist me with ANYTHING. This store has always emailed pictures and done phone orders because most of their clients are long distance.

I responded how terrible it must be for the store to lose its primary customer base and all that revenue.

Lala, they should be paying you to shop at their stores considering how well you promote their product. I've bought scarves I never would have considered after seeing your photos here.

You're kind to say so. Perhaps H.com will expand their inventory which would give all of us the opportunity to buy and ship, with the added benefit of their 30 day refund (not store credit) policy!

Lala I totally agree with Memo, I have bought my first piece of RTW after seeing you modeling it, your thread is enabling central for me!

Many resellers on eBay have already taken advantage of this new policy by increasing their prices, especially for birkins n Kellys.
A birkin 30 that I was watching was not sold and the next time it was listed the starting price was increased by $2000. The seller simply stated the fact that it would be harder to people to get b and k from now on..
This makes me sick.........

Great post with many good points. In my case, I hate to shop ~ in person ~ and do most of my buying over the phone for items sight unseen, even though there are H stores near-by. I have an established relationship with my SA and adore her. Hopefully, that will continue, in spite of these new policies.
