Oh my, it really does look sad. Seeing the shades down and signs taped to the door, my first thought would be that they had closed. At least until one is close enough to read the signs. Funny window - looks like cacti with sea gulls!
I think I’m going to switch to the SF store. The Palo Alto experience does feel a bit sadder and they always seem to be out of colors or things I’m looking for.

I too thought it was closed. The door look like it had metal shutters on the inside and locked up but someone opened the door to greet us. :frown:

I see so many businesses that are boarded up or windows covered with paper. It is hard to tell which are closed for good and which will re-open when things pick up. I sooooo wish we could make more progress coming out from the pandemic. Le sigh...

I walked by this weekend and assumed they were just in the middle of redecorating! Yikes wonder why they feel the need to do all that... it DOES look sad. Do you think it has anything to do with security concerns?

I hope they don't lose more customers... I was just telling my husband how happy I am that this shopping center has managed to maintain its luster. I would hate to lose stores like H on the Peninsula. :(

Gates are up for security. LV had a few smash and grabs. The blinds go down when it's sunny and warm. H will never leave Stanford mall, in fact, they're thinking about expanding. It is the main gateway for Silicon Valley for those who don't want to drive to SF.

I didn't know that! Good to hear. Not that I'm even a big customer or anything like that but I don't want to see the shopping center struggling in any sense.

I really enjoy the SF store itself but goodness, the last time I went in, I took BART and I was super fearful the entire way home carrying a big H bag. H may be concerned about store security, but I was more fixated on PERSONAL security. All the reports about car break-ins and even in-car snatch and grabs has spooked me too.

thats so cool if they are able to expand and become a bigger store and meet demand and what not. Are they able to expand Though or would they need to move to a larger space in PA? Cause I can’t imagine what stores are next to them that they could take over just to become bigger?

I do love this store and the SA I work with here but a part of me wishes they opened a third store in the South Bay (valley fair or Santana Row) just cause traffic can be pretty horrid going back to the South Bay depending on the time of day via 101 or 280. I think A third store would be great. The Bay Area is pretty large, I feel there should be one that serves the South Bay. *Wishful thinking though on my part though*

The last couple of times that I went in to SF, I asked for a white paper bag. I’ve never had any problems, and I know that the majority of the world wouldn’t know H if they saw it, but I just felt like toning it down a bit.

I always drove there but I asked for white paper bags. If you ask, one of the SAs can escort you to your car (I've been offered this before but didn't need it, thankfully). I always felt much more safe at the PA location than the SF location...but that's also because I was able to park within a 2-3 minute walk of the PA location.

Yes, I didn't know the white bag was a thing until much later! They didn't offer me one there. Will definitely be doing that if I buy something there in the future.
White bag is standard in big cities - in Paris, with pickpockets everywhere, they default to a white bag if you have a very big box. They will also pull the inside slip over the orange box so no one can detect the H goodies within!
