I always drove there but I asked for white paper bags. If you ask, one of the SAs can escort you to your car (I've been offered this before but didn't need it, thankfully). I always felt much more safe at the PA location than the SF location...but that's also because I was able to park within a 2-3 minute walk of the PA location.

I live in SF so I take the bus downtown. I don’t feel unsafe in SF, probably because I have lived here most of my life. I just prefer not to advertise that I have been shopping during these times. A white bag could be anything!

White bag is standard in big cities - in Paris, with pickpockets everywhere, they default to a white bag if you have a very big box. They will also pull the inside slip over the orange box so no one can detect the H goodies within!

Oddly I'd never been offered a white bag until just this year when I bought something at Cartier. In fact I bought 2 bags at Hermes in Paris a few years ago and they sent me on my way with 2 giant orange bags. I didn't feel concerned in Paris though... SF lately has me much more spooked.

Wondering if anyone has had luck recently with bag offers?

I was just there yesterday and the store really looks empty. They have their grooming bags on display (usually tucked in the corner) instead of their usual leather bags! I was hoping to get something for my birthday/anniversary but my SA said most of their orders have been cancelled and that their next anticipated shipment will be next year. She said she doesn’t even know what they’ll sell for the holidays. I’m bummed but what can we do but hope for the best. I hope things turn around because I find it hard to believe that H won’t have anything for sale during the holiday season.

I have a question about PA vs. SF stores.

I used to work in the city, so I bought a few scarves, scarf rings as well as getting my vintage Kelly spa’ed at the SF location. This was before PA store was open.

Then I changed job so I didn’t want to drive into the city, so I haven’t shopped in store since, just ordering stuff online.
Now with a store in PA, and the pandemic is getting better, I start wanting to shop there again.

If I shop at PA now, do they considered me a store hopper? Eventhough small I’d like to keep my purchase history and add on to it, instead of starting anew. So not sure whats the best approach is.

Any advices would be helpful.
Thanks a lot!!!

There are probably more well seasoned Hermes TPF'ers here who can give you a better answer. BUT personally I wouldn't think they would consider you to be a store hopper if you make your intentions known that you'd like to switch your home store to be Palo Alto because its closer for you.

While I have heard SF might have better stock of some items (again, this could be up for debate because of the supply chain issue currently due to the pandemic BUT they are also a bigger flagship store so I really don't know how it is in SF currently) I really like how cozy & intimate the PA store is. I personally haven't been to the SF location just because I don't wanna deal with the parking, car break-in's, traffic from the South Bay, etc.

I think it's ultimately up to you if you would like to continue to make the drive up to SF, they are a bigger store BUT they might have low stock of anything at the moment as well too. If you want something closer and you don't mind starting new, then I think PA would be a great decision. Then finding an awesome SA who vibe with. They can then help order things for you if they are able to*. I totally vouch for Thao btw, she is so amazing!

*I'd just like to add - I think SAs can order things if its available from their warehouse but SAs are having issues with store transfers at the moment due to the shortage.

Hope this somewhat helps :)

Thank you so much for your detailed answer. As far as convenience concerns, I’m totally leaning towards PA because that’s only 20’ drive vs. 1hours + traffic and parking. But I have read so many disheartening stories about SA at PA which makes me wonder maybe SF is more than worth the drive?
When I was shopping in SF it was pre-covid so I could browse the store for as long as I wanted with nobody watching or questioning me. I also shopped at their Paris flagship store and the experience was beyond wonderful. Their staff was very nice, professional and super helpful. So all the negative reviews about PA really makes me sad and hesitant.

But then again it was all pre-covid.

I might make an appt at PA and see how it goes and decide from there.

I saw lots of great reviews about Thao and Mile. Maybe I’ll put their name on the appt request and see if I could get them.

Thanks again!

please do share if you got an offer!!! how exciting!
He returned with a big bag and a smug smile, and so far is answering yes/no questions. What I know thus far:
It’s a B or a K
It’s not yellow or brown (my two least favorite colors)
Quote “it’s something good”
The shrink wrap was on the box when he arrived at the store (doesn’t really matter to me one way or another, but he’s not giving me more hints yet!)

Happy to report that I didn’t have to wait long, as tonight is the first night of Hanukkah. It’s a K28 retourne verso Blush/Rose Jaipur and it’s amazing! I’ve been wanting a neutral K retourne for a long time, and I love the interior pop color! I really wasn’t expecting anything this year because of the chronically low stock but as always, our SA came through with a beautiful surprise!
