Hermes on Bluefly

I've been to both Richard's and Mitchell's, really nice people, high emphasis on customer service...plus their staff is H knowledgeable on H even though they work for the store and not H.

Good to know! Have you been able to purchase anything really special there?

Let's just say what they lack in merchandise they make up in service...they don't really get too many of the coveted bags but they do get to go to the forums so I assume they can place orders for special customers. They also call when an item you're looking for comes in.

Ok. I was curious so I did sent Hermes an email asking about authenticity of Bluefly items and whether or not they are an auth. seller. Below is the response.

Bonjour,

Thank you for visiting Hermes.com.

Bluefly.com is not an authorized seller. The authenticity of your item
is guaranteed only by the original receipt provided at the time of
purchase, whether from our website, an Hermès boutique or an authorized
retailer such as Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue. We cannot
guarantee nor verify the authenticity of any item purchased outside an
authorized Hermès boutique.

Again, thank you for your interest in Hermès.
We look forward to your next visit with us.

Sincerely,
Veronica Batista

Very interesting indeed! I had always just assumed they couldn't do SOs.
It's Mitchells in Greenwich, right? Or is that Richards? Either way, they had several Victoria FT bags the last time I was in there, including one in Etoupe. Yum! It called out to me but I resisted. They also had a Bolide in Brighton Blue at the time.

bluefly is great -- i have bought many things from bluefly (including an authentic hermes bag for about $1000 less than retail) without a problem. i'm not sure why it's such a big deal that they're not an authorized reseller so long as you can tell the difference between a fake and authentic bag (and buying a bag from an authorized store like neiman's is no guarantee either -- i've heard of people getting fake balenciagas at neiman's). of course hermes wants to control where their bags are sold -- that's why they frown on resellers (and people don't seem to have a problem with them even though they charge thousands above retail). whoever got that chevre bolide was very lucky! i believe it was $3400 (which means less than $3000 if you use a promo code).

I tend to agree with kicksarefortwids...just like I doubt cartier would authorize to Overstock.com to carry their items but they still do. You always take a risk buying at a discount but that's the beauty of paying with a cc and having a return policy. I would not have hesitated to buy that bolide had it been a color I can handle....

I checked my GP up and down when I received it and it is absolutely authentic. It came with the authentic dustbags for the bag and the strap. My scarf came in authentic H scarf box, and I didn't expect that at all. If things look shop worn, it is probably the way they looked when they got to BF. It is a discount site after all. I had an email from them on Sun regarding an extra 25% off on certain item. I found a pair of black suede sandals that feature the tortoise shell scarf ring as decoration. We'll see what they look like and if they look shop worn. If not to my liking, back they go!

I bought a silver (not stainless; I don't think they make it in silver anymore) Cape Cod watch from Bluefly a while ago and took it to my local H store to have it serviced. I was told that the back of the watch was not the original back (maybe it was replaced at some point? maybe the back is stainless?) but H did service my watch. I was embarrassed and told them where I got the watch and that I only did it because I saw it was silver. So, I am leery of H itemes on bluefly. Oh and it doesn't keep good time, either.
