Is there a line to get into Madison store during wkday around opening time? I’m interested in non-bag items.

Also, is it safe to take NYC subway w B or C in the midtown and Madison shopping area?

Thanks so much.
I don’t think weekdays are super busy, I only go during the week! You can definitely just walk in.

I personally don’t feel safe on the subway (super subjective and I’m prob a more paranoid person haha) or walking around midtown, UES I do feel more safe, but I don’t take the subway very often (or walk around with my bags, working on it!) - but it’s true subway is faster. Statistically speaking I’m sure it’s fine though especially if you’re situationally aware and not browsing on your phone

Walking around midtown while it’s daylight I feel totally safe. You still need to be aware - there are definitely crazy things that happen in a big city. I have always taken the subway. I tend to turn my bags face - logo - in. Last time I was in nyc my husband had read some article on subway crime going up and told me not to take the subway. 🤷‍♀️ When I was a kid I took the nyc subway with friends all the time and it was probably way less safe.

Have a wonderful time in NYC- it's beautiful weather today, so don't spend TOO much time at Hermes! :graucho:
Note- subways are fine, and certainly the fastest, most economical way of getting all around town.
100% agree with ^

Have fun @NewBe

Anyone else notice that deliveries now specify Hermes Maison Madison on the return label. I preferred when they said HOP. Also, I hate telling them multiple times re no boxes no orange bags. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes not. First world problems

would it be worth (i know it’s subjective) trying to build a relationship with the Madison store if I were only able to come to NY once a year ? i went in on Tues and got a steeple and the SA was quite nice. or am i better off trying to do this at my home store (it’s in asia and extremely competitive there). i can probably drop in once more this trip and buy a scarf and something else if i wanted to try to build this relationship but im trying to figure what works best 😂

Madison is competitive as well. I’d recommend local.

Madison is one of the most competitive locations. Once a year is not nearly enough to develop a relationship if your end goal is a QB offer. I would stick to your home store.

I agree with both.

@piggiejan - If you are not looking for a quota bag at all, you can shop anywhere with any SAs you want. If you want to shop at the Madison maison hoping to get a quota bag (i.e., Birkin or Kelly), "once a year" is just not possible. (Even if you plan to spend $500,000 on that day, you may not get the bag because they simply may not have the bag you want in that time frame; This has little to do with the SA. Plus, the SAs in Madison typically want to build rapport by learning about you in greater details [e.g., your lifestyle - work, family, vacation, etc.] before offering you a bag. It cannot be done by visiting there once a year.)

If you want to shop "once a year" and hope to get a quota bag, Paris, Las Vegas or Hawaii (or other stores that have 70%+ of non-local clients) would be better options. (Yet, there is still no guarantee that you would get a bag.)

Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you!

thank you. this is super insightful and i think i get the thinking / logic behind this now !! to be honest i dont know why i suddenly had a full on blast of FOMO but i do think i want a B so that i can get it out of my system !!

No. The NY boutiques do not cultivate long distance clients like they used to. Madison in particular prioritizes clients that can physically come into the store to shop. Phone orders etc. are unlikely to merit the kind of attention that would lead to QB acquisition. For any other purchases, feel free to shop wherever you like. I occasionally shop Singapore, Liat, and it is the same. They are exceedingly nice and I buy a few items of RTW when I visit family once a year. Although I could meet 1X plus a year, i dont consider myself in the pool of regulars (and more importantly, neither do they).

Paris, Las Vegas or Hawaii (or other stores that have 70%+ of non-local clients) would be better options. (Yet, there is still no guarantee that you would get a bag.)

It is possible that FSH would bend for a longstanding or high spending client, but twice a year is considered on the low side of new clients that hope to become regular. (I shop FSH twice a year with a regular SA, and I get offered QBs twice a year, but I still consider Madison my local store where the large majority of spend goes). This is my understanding from speaking to a few SAs at FSH. Of course exceptions will be made for the right client, but few of us meet those kinds of exceptions.

For Las Vegas or Hawaii, I get the impression that for QB, more than once a year would be expected in order to become known as a regular for someone new.

Does anyone have any experience with purchasing Petit H items in NYC? I am intrigued by the mystery of it but was wondering if there is an in store purchasing option.
It’s my understanding that Petit H can only be purchased at Sevres in Paris or on line. This may be due to the extreme limited aspect of its creation

ETA: my observations are really limited to my own personal experience. I believe that the experiences of long tenured clients are very different.
