Just wanted to share this with all the ladies here....I was in Paris for vacation last week and tried to score a Birkin with no luck. I came back and went to the Madison store today and asked directly for a birkin to match with one of my Hermes scarf. I was told no at first, then after chatting for a little bit, the SA brought out a birkin 35 for me. I never bought anything from this SA before and only bought few scarves from that store over the past few years. I am so happy to score a birkin. It proves that persistence do work. Good luck to all of you who want to score a birkin/kelly!
thats so good to hear!
i am going to NYC in December for celebrating new year.
Would you mind PM me the SA who helped you made your dream come true? if you don't mind.
Thanks!

I was in the Wall Street store last week - such a great experience. I think it was Miguel who helped me with scarves, and he was extraordinary, helping me with ones I thought I wanted, then picking out one I would never have picked for myself that made me positively glow! Even the rest of the staff were attentive from a distance. So different from the Madison Avenue "zoo": calm, welcoming and obliging. And yes, it does smell wonderful.

I've had a similarly pleasant experience with Miguel and scarves at Wall Street.

I'm going to visit NYC in two weeks over the first weekend of March on a little getaway. It looks like I'll be going to Madison Ave and/or Wall St on Monday. After my 6+ years of H scarves and accessories I am finally ready for my first H bag.
I'm leaning towards the Madison Ave store since it has more inventory even though it is further away from my hotel.

Would the SAs be too busy to help an H bag newbie out? I've done a lot of reading on the forums but I really want to see things in person to decide. Should I try to make an appointment? Any recommendations on SAs? Thanks in advance everyone! :smile1:

^ Madison is my other "local" store and I've shopped with them for many many years, so my views will be somewhat biased. I obviously love the store and I think the staff at the boutique are all great. No need to make an appointment, but best to go on weekdays as weekends are incredibly busy and you probably won't get the attention you want. I know of several friends, with no previous purchasing history at the store, who have walked into Madison and been offered (and subsequently bought) birkins and kellys. It doesn't happen often but it can still happen. *and absolutely NO bribes necessary (if you read some of the posts here that comment will make sense) ;)

Enjoy your first visit to Madison!

Why don't you visit both locations if you have the time? The stores are on the same subway lines, if you decided to visit both on Monday. If your hotel is closer to Wall, I'd start there and work your way uptown to Madison. As you probably know, around Madison is a lot of great shopping (aside from Hermes). Enjoy your trip!

i'd try for both stores. are you trying for a b/k or another bag? madison has better inventory but i've found the staff to not be very helpful or nice even. every time i walk in there, i get ignored mostly. wall st much more friendly ime.

Enjoy your first visit to Madison!

Thanks Leah! That is encouraging news. I will only be able to go on Monday. I fly in Saturday evening and fly out Monday evening. Unfortunately a short trip but it will be fun anyways!

Thanks gymangel. I'm trying for a b/k. Experiences like yours make me cautious about Madison. I've had bad experiences at Rodeo myself because they are so busy. But I think I will try both.

Thanks Maseml. Is it long on the subway? Google maps said about 40 minutes from the Conrad. I have a 5pm flight to catch out of JFK. Hopefully I'll have time for both. I think you know what I mean when you can get lost in one of these stores. However DBF did ask me to see if I can get it changed to a later flight... :graucho:

The Conrad is a lovely hotel. I was there last night.

You'll need to walk over to Wall (probably a 10-15 min walk). It's a fairly straight walk across town (your hotel is in Battery Park, lower west side of city and Wall is lower center), or you could hop on the downtown 2 or 3 train (nearest subway is Chambers) to Wall. The Wall St store is across the street from the NYSE.

To head up to Madison, you can take the 4,5 (green line) to 59th street and then walk 2 avenues over and 3 streets up to Hermes Madison. Other subway you can take is the R train (yellow line) to 59th/5th stop, and walk 1 avenue and 3 streets up. Both of these subway lines are right by H Wall St.

Generally speaking, the green line runs more frequently than the yellow line. Also, the 4 and 5 trains run express (R is local), so it will be faster. I'd say, it should take you 15-20 mins to get there, if that; 5 stops on the train. I worked on Wall St for a very long time and used to make quick trips uptown and was typically back in my office in under an hour.

If you are heading directly from your hotel to H Madison, that will take a while. I can give those instructions if you like, but 40-45 mins sounds about right.

Oh, I hope you do push back your flight! You can definitely visit both stores and still make it back to your hotel in time to head to the airport. Though, as you allude, you may feel rushed but still possible. Enjoy your trip!

I would just take a cab. So much easier considering you don't know the city and have time limitations.
