So DH and I visited Madison for the first time a year ago, and we were underwhelmed by the lack of service. We decided to visit again on Saturday, and most of the SA's were pleasant enough to greet us (not like last time when we were basically ignored on every floor) and ask if we needed assistance. The only thing I found rude was when a SA was showing me an exotic Kelly wallet that was on display, and she immediately forgot about us when she spotted 1 of her regulars- she called out to him "hey big spender" and we soon became forgotten. That was definitely weird...

wow.... maybe she and that client of hers are close enough to make this kind of joke without making the client feel offended, but that's definitely something she should say in front of other clients....

I suppose they're extremely close, because she also proceeded to ask him if he's sick. When he replied no, she said he sounds terrible :shrugs:

The whole thing was bizarre lol.

Or I suppose she just has low or no EQ, despite working in a customer service position. LOL.

 oh well, at least everyone else was nice this time. Last time, everyone was so cold and just standing around. At the men's store, they didn't greet anyone who came in although only 1 of the SA's was actually busy working with someone. I don't know if staff or management has recently changed, or if we received better service because we had our dog with us and everyone wanted to pet her lol.

It's funny you say that - I shop at the Madison store and think everyone is generally nice and will at least acknowledge you even if they are with a customer. I went to the SF store this weekend (with my K) and was looking around for 20 min without anyone acknowledging me. I also saw 3 ladies with Bs who huffed about the poor service and walked out without really browsing. DH and I felt really fortunate that our Madison SA makes us feel comfortable regardless of what we're wearing (e.g. the one time my DH showed up looking like he just ran a marathon).

I have had the same experience. Most recently, have really enjoyed shopping at Madison. Have always received the cold shoulder in SF.

I have only been to the SF store once and I had a great experience. I was very well-received and I was certainly not dressed up for the occasion. I was greeted immediately by one SA, then when she went away to fetch something for me, other SA approached me to ask if I needed help. I found my dream RT Evelyn 😅 there so I guess I was very fortunate.

I have only been to the Madison location twice; once 10 yrs ago and the other this year. I was totally overwhelmed by the crowd and how busy the SAs were in the scarf section. The SAs in the handbag and jewlery sections were quite friendly probably because they weren't as busy as those on the first floor. It also helped that I was there with other TPFers 😊

I agree that the first floor at Madison is very busy. It's always a beehive of activity there!
