I carry the raincoat in my bags too but have not had to use them yet since I try not to carry them if there's a chance of rain that day (my Kelly is Barenia and my Birkin is Tadelakt). One time I got caught in the rain and instead of using the raincoat, I shoved my bag inside my reusable grocery bag and carried my groceries by hand lol. I was not about to sacrifice my bag for my milk and produce.

For anyone looking, there is a big sale going on for envirosax (see the deals and steals forum for the code). They are small, portable and are great for protecting your bag in the rain. They are more fashionable than plastic shopping bags! Not sure if they will go over a Birkin 35 (since I don't have one...yet) but they do fit over a 28 Kelly and a Dalvy.

I just got back from dinner and put the raincoat over my birkin which was next to me in the booth. I do it all the time and don't give a second thought to it. I protect my bag from splatters from the table or the wait staff, anywhere there's a possibility of food flying. It's just not worth taking the chance and I don't care what anyone thinks who sees it.

Sikkim is taken out in rain and snow and looks better than ever, I'm still in happy disbelief that such a delicate to the touch leather doesn't stretch! Never had any issues with Swift, Chèvre or Epsom. Togo and Clemence-not so sure anymore. I wipe them dry right away, but they stretch and I think humidity plays a role in it.

So glad to hear this. What a relief. I haven't carried mine as it feels like such a fragile leather.

Off to plot a few outfits.

Agree about clemence, close to amphibian. My first Evelyne has be so wet, once I had to literally squeeze the water out hours later when I got home. It is just fine and looks great today.

I live in a place rather known for its rainy climate and use my H bags almost exclusively for day-to-day activities. My experience is that clemence and togo are just fine in the rain. I even have gotten my clemence bag completely soaked through (it is an evelyn and my playground bag) and it survived without any damage. The togo bags are kellys and birkins and although never getting soaked through, they do get wet without any problems. I have a couple bags in box which have been Docrided and both have been in the rain (not soaked, just with rain dropping on them) without any blistering or other damage - water just beads off. I have even have water splash on my barenia bags and, although I had a heartattack the first time, it simply dried away without a trace.

The leathers are tougher than they might seem.

Thanks for sharing, good to know that the leather is tougher than they might seem.

I never use the rain coat H provided because I find it funny looking and not sealing the water properly due to so many open points. I use a "bag in a bag" shower proof nylon totes which fold into nothing and carry them in my Bs etc.

Hi xiangxiang0731, may I know where to get the "bag in a bag" for Bs? The envirosax I normally use is too small. Any pics? Thank you.

I am slightly paranoid as well about the rain and my LV/ Mansur Gavriel bags (ESP Vachetta which I prefer not to treat) I read that after some time the vachetta's natural patina will make it more durable and stain/water resistant.. but I always carry a "Baggu" nylon bag with me and a plastic bag, so if I get caught in the rain I put my leather bag in the plastic and carry it in the Baggu. It's compact and lets me be a lot more care free about my investments :)

I just bought my very first H bag and it's an Evie in clemence. Did you pre-treat your Evie with anything? I've read somewhere that clemence blisters too if get in contact with the rain and am so worried. Please advise? Thanks [emoji4]

No, don't treat it and I don't know where this misinformation about clemence blistering came from. It doesn't. I have worn my clemence bags in soaking rain and snow and there were no ill aftereffects.

my clemence birkin was once caught in the rain. i tried my best to protect it and wiped off rain immediately. the leather is OK but the glue on the handle is open on the 2 top spots. so i will avoid the rain when i use clemence.
also, my chevre mysore kelly was once caught in the rain and the color on the spot darkened. i immediately wiped off the rain and let it dry and the color went back to normal.
from what i experience, epsom performs much better in the situation of rain/water and food spill.

Thank you so much!!! Now I can wear it rain or shine as I bought it as an everyday bag but was worried about the rainy season. [emoji4][emoji4]

No need - I've soaked (unintentionally!) bags in clemence, togo and swift and they all recovered perfectly. I don't recommend getting caught in a downpour (or snowstorm) if you can avoid it but if it happens, your bag won't suffer. Just towel it off when you get in and you should be fine. Enjoy your new purchase!

While epsom is supposed to be very durable please do be careful about not getting it wet. My lovely kelly wallet blistered when condensation from a closed water bottle leaked on it. It is ruined and can't be repaired because of the embossed nature of epsom.
One of the (several) reasons I will never accept a bag in this leather.
