I always have a raincoat in each of my H bags. And if for some reason one gets separated from a purse I will put my purse inside anything; my jacket, a shopping bag, whatever. I've never had a problem with water except that one time and I do have quite a few box leather bags.

This is exactly how I discovered Goyard, their purses are just made weather proof. And Melissa shoes, I got one pair because they are made from PVC and really are indestructible. I now own many pairs of Melissa because they are ridiculously comfortable and you can wear them barefoot on day one with no issues. They live happily next to my Manolo Blahniks.

I carry leather GP's in rain or snow or sleet and they have been fine. If I had to wait for good weather I would never wear any of my things. The weather in the Northeast has been awful.

I have used all my bags in the snow and rain - barenia, swift, clemence, togo, chevre. No issues. In fact, my swift bag was caught in a torrential downpour, got soaked, and dried with no issues. The only bag I wouldn't take in the rain/snow was my box bag, which is one reason I sold it.

Gosh, I love Swift. Love the sheen and the feel. Not sure how much I love the slouchiness over time, though. Has your swift bag(s) become a puddle over time? I don't want a super-stiff bag, but I do want some soft structure.

Also, a question about the barenia in the rain -- did it dry right back to its original color, or did the rain hasten the patina process and make it darker?

Sikkim is taken out in rain and snow and looks better than ever, I'm still in happy disbelief that such a delicate to the touch leather doesn't stretch! Never had any issues with Swift, Chèvre or Epsom. Togo and Clemence-not so sure anymore. I wipe them dry right away, but they stretch and I think humidity plays a role in it.

I live in a place rather known for its rainy climate and use my H bags almost exclusively for day-to-day activities. My experience is that clemence and togo are just fine in the rain. I even have gotten my clemence bag completely soaked through (it is an evelyn and my playground bag) and it survived without any damage. The togo bags are kellys and birkins and although never getting soaked through, they do get wet without any problems. I have a couple bags in box which have been Docrided and both have been in the rain (not soaked, just with rain dropping on them) without any blistering or other damage - water just beads off. I have even have water splash on my barenia bags and, although I had a heartattack the first time, it simply dried away without a trace.

The leathers are tougher than they might seem.

I live in a rainy and snowy climate but barely take any H bag out in bad weather after destroying my ostrich birkin at a lunch once. I used to think raincoats were ridiculous for handbags however I guess I've learned that it is equally as absurd to use an ostrich birkin as a beach bag...but for me the togo leathers have survived nicely while the finer skins do not. While shopping last week in San Diego to purchase the So Kelly - it was raining and the SA kindly gave me a raincoat for my little picotin...I don't anticipate rain in some reasons however the staff was very nice (for a change)!!
