I went into the Melbourne store with my mum about a month and a half ago just to look around and though we never made any move to buy anything the staff were perfectly nice. Not really interested in us, but we were greeted and farewelled very politely. There was an Asian woman who came in about the same time as us and pretty bluntly asked if they had any Birkins. She had an obvious accent so she probably wasn't a local and she seemed a little rude to me but despite that the staff were pretty courteous when they told her there were no Birkins or Kellys.

A few weeks later I decided to buy a Kelly Lock Pendant in silver of course (I know that's not the proper name, but whatever). The Australian website had it in stock but having no credit card I can't buy online and I'd prefer to do it in store anyway. So I called ahead just to make sure it was in stock first. A perfectly nice woman answered the phone and confirmed that it was available so I went down there. I don't have a lot of money so even one of Hermes' cheaper items (AU$680) was a slightly controversial buy for me. I was dressed pretty averagely, albeit in head-to-toe black, which is not unusual for me and I was carrying a bag I bought in Dangerfield that cost $30 on sale and was made of maybe wool with what I call fleather (fake leather) decorative bits on the front.

Despite the fact that I'm clearly not flush the man who I dealt with was very nice. He got the pendant I wanted out, took off the plastic coverings it was shipped in and was eager to let me try it on before I bought it. He was really polite the whole time and made light conversation (which I usually I hate, but found okay in this instance) during my purchase, which he handled with efficiency but no rush, if you get what I mean.

In future I'd like to own an Hermes bag, maybe a Kelly 32 or 35 or a So Kelly, either size. No rush, I'm only almost twenty-four. But the next purchase I want to make is a Kelly Double Tour Bracelet in black, PHW. The sales guy was happy to let me try one of the bracelets on even though I made clear I wouldn't be buying. Unfortunately, though they had a whole bunch of colours (no exotics that I saw but he said they had lots more out the back and some of them could have been exotic), there wasn't a single large in store and the medium was just too small for me. Wonderfully soft leather though. There was an adorable Picotin Lock PM (maybe TPM, does it come that small?) in store, way too small to be useful to anyone but so, so cute!

In all I had a very pleasant experience in the Hermes Melbourne Store. This is in stark contrast to the Chanel store some way down Collins St, back in December.

Firstly, the security guards seem to think their job is glare to at everyone who so much as walks past the store. Secondly, the staff seem completely disinterested in any customer who isn't obviously wealthy. My mum and I went in there with every intention of buying a bottle of perfume from the exclusive range that you can only get in the boutiques, Cuir de Russie to be precise. It was my Christmas present that I'd requested and we'd gone just to try it before and be sure I wanted it (we were looked at suspiciously the whole time we were there then) and if we'd had any choice we would have bought it in Myer, where the sales people in every section are to my experience universally nice.

In the Chanel boutique however the saleswoman whose attention we finally managed to get was dismissive and had a baffling lack of knowledge about what they sold. The perfume was right there on a display with all the others and she had to see it every day she worked there but she acted like she had no idea what we were talking about for about a minute. Apparently she didn't know how to use the computer system either because she declared that she had no idea whether they had it in stock and then went to rummage through the cupboard, looking pretty put out at having to do so. She didn't find it so she went back to the computer, apparently learned how to use it and informed us that it was only in the Chadstone Shopping Centre store. She made no offer to get in for us and when my mum asked if she could she gave us a flat no. Since my mum hates Chadstone (which I understand is huge and very crowded, though I've never been myself as it is quite far from where we live) she asked whether I'd mind waiting nine months since she was going on holiday to Europe and would be able to buy it in Paris instead.

Neither of us have been back since, though a little while ago we looked in the window of a shoe store across from the Chanel boutique (for those unfamiliar they're situated on either side of a driveway for a fancy hotel so they both have long windows facing each other) and we noticed a Chanel guard staring at us about half the time we were facing the other way, looking at shoes and when we turned around and I pointed out a bag I'd seen online (the mini hula hoop one) he looked really suspicious. And then a few days ago I walked past and was consequently glared at by another security guard when I paused for a few seconds to look at a coat in the window. Sure, I can't afford it, that doesn't mean I'm some sort of hoodlum who's about to break out a spray can and deface their windows or something.

This was an unexpectedly verbose post but I really had to get that all out.

Dear Fellow Melburnians,

How does anyone get an authentic resalel lindy in Melbourne (or in Oz) itself? I have been scouring the internet and here almost everyday looking for a second hand lindy 34; but they are generally from ebay US and w duties and taxes, I most probably can buy a brand new one here in Melb (and possibly w change for a coffee). I recently took a chance to buy a hermes bag from US, didn't cost much but still at around US$3k, but decided to risk it to avoid duties and taxes, but on hindsight, this is a very risky move and will not try it again...:sweatdrop:

I saw a lindy in sdyney on deluxemall - but the site looks almost like "ioffer" and it worries me. Can anyone offer any advice pertaining to getting a resale AUTHENTIC Lindy in Melbourne or if this proves impossible, in Australia? Is resale hermes avail within oz? I am not travelling anytime soon, so o-seas is out.

I will be eternally grateful.

I think they have a black lindy on australia.hermes.com size 34 with palladium

I have seen Lindy's in the Sydney store, why don't you give them a call and have a chat about acquiring a Lindy.

Went to the store today and they have the following:
- bi-colour bearn wallet (dark blue outside and light blue inside, I don't exactly know the name for the colour)
- 31 black bolide
- a beautiful croc belt with diamond H buckle (the width is quite small, smaller than the 25mm ones)
- a Kelly watch with croc strap and diamond lock watch
- a small blue Lin Evelyn

Thanks, Benf and Suzie for your replies!

I have called Sydney and they said they do not have a Lindy at the moment. And I also saw the one online but I am "iffy" on getting a black one as I already have a black hobo bag...

I spoke to both Melbourne and Sydney stores and they both have none; and at this stage, I think I will have to be patient until I fly over to Europe....it's cheaper there.

has anyone of you purchased a very expensive Hermes bag second-hand before? Can someone advise on where to find one? Or can anyone share their buying a H bag through the reseller route story?

Many thanks,

There was a 34 blue galice? in Melbourne two weeks ago and last week an 30 orange online, you should be able to get one local, although Europe is SOOOO much cheaper!!!
