Luxury industry in the Philippines proves a valuable concept: the money cycle. SSI and other luxury goods providers claim that the reason why their prices are high is because of the steep luxury tax.

So:

I love it.

What is this luxury tax all about and when did this happen? Wala pa nito nung umalis ako. Who gets to decide what is luxury then and what should be taxed? The wives of the corrupt public officials???

if the luxury tax is so, then how come LV prices aren't that steep compared to SSI stuff?

I played with a YSL muse at rustans and it cost Php 113,000 - 10% discount = 101,700. at the website it was US$ 1395. so x 49 x 1.09 (assumed US tax) = 74,500. that's a diff of 27,200 or US$555.00. which is enough for a pair or two of nice designer heels.

I think it's because LV Manila is not a franchise. Operation costs are handled by LV itself, unlike with SSI where they have to spend for everything.

wow, pretty! although the weather looks depressing.

I used to have lonely dinners at Max Brenner when I was still working in Manila. Oh well, their food didn't impress me anyway. I just like their hot chocolate in "hug cups".

if H Manila is just a franchise...then goodluck to us specially for a 22-year-old like moi..SSI's prices are exaaaage! guess i won't be upgrading anytime soon with a loot from here.

IF they wouldn't give out competitive prices, some pinays would think it "wiser" to just buy from famous resellers for the same price of a brand new one, even rares and exotics--saves them from getting in a dumb waitlist, they can get it in a day if they prefer.

they better stock up well on clic clacs and twillys, 'cause I will be hoarding!

Hi LadyRider, Im based here in Manila. May I know if the Dec 15 opening is on sked ? I'm hoping I can exchange my H reversible belt there for a smaller size. I asked a friend to get the belt in HK last Monday Nov. 2. I called Hermes H.K ( Lee Gardens) earlier and they said there's no expiry date for exchange of items w/ belts, scarves. She also said that I should be able to return it when Hermes opens here.

Are you familiar w/ the exchange policy of Hermes. I'm sorry if its a bit O.T. . Just desperate here. I'm currently looking for friends who are flying to HK soon. But if I could return it myself, so much the better. Thanks !
