Thanks Allanrvj and bagdizzy.

I also think it is very important that H in Manila to have very good buyers who can pick the hard to find H pieces that are unique, exquisite, chic and timeless. Filipinos have a natural tendency to appreciate and value excellent craftmanship and use of beautiful materials. I think H will redefine the concept of what true luxury means in its simple and understated form and how it enhances one's daily existence. I think Manila will re-learn how to appreciate and buy goods not for its brand name but for its quality and design. Like BV, which already has a presence there, H will reinstate that luxury is not something to be flaunted but rather be enjoyed privately as it appeals to one's five senses and personal style.

ITA Jaegerhomme, allanrvj. I will look in Manila, but buy in the US. BTW, I like the restaurants and the bookstore in fort bonefacio (sp?)

And i do wear GM cs in airconditioned cars and restaurants :)

Bonifacio. :smile1: I like the bookstores, too. Especially the Fully Booked in Bonifacio High Street.

It's also called The Fort, to shorten it.

When were you in Manila, Allan? Seems it wasn't too long ago.:D Whenever you're in town, post me a PM..my office is right behind Boni High Street. Would be nice to meet a fellow member.:D

Is it cheaper to buy in HKG as opposed to the US?

Hong Kong is cheaper than the US after tax. But Taiwan is cheaper than Hong Kong, so ladies in Manila can try Taiwan instead. The prices of luxury goods in Hong Kong have increased significantly in recent years due to all the shoppers from mainland China.

Oh my, it has certainly been a while since I've been back to Philippines. "The Fort" during my time was just big empty land. Now it has High Street? Sheesh! I should really go back for a visit! Hopefully H is already be open at that time.

I think that I can ask my question here and someone will answer me correctly: which are the less expensive countries to buy luxuries in?

In Asia, I would say it's definitely Taiwan. Hong Kong used to be cheaper but not anymore. Plus, you get another 5% VAT refund in Taiwan. Friends from Taiwan used to fly to HK to buy jewelry, cosmetics, fashion brands but now they don't bother coming out here anymore.

It has been my belief that Hong Kong is the cheapest country to buy luxury goods in the region...so this comes as a shock. But yeah, I think you're right. Like I've checked the latest prices and I don't go "wow, that's cheap" like I did before. I'll definitely check out Taiwan.

it is "relatively" cheaper in Taiwan now also because NT (New Taiwan dollar) has depreciated somewhat. Thus, when I shop in Hermes duty free in the airport, it is actually cheaper than the Hong Kong Hermes store! The only downside is that selection in Taiwan tends to be poorer (only 4 in the whole country, I think) where in Hong Kong, you have close to 10 H shops!

I see, this is great info. I went to Taiwan before, but i haven't really shopped, I will keep this in mind. The four Hermes stores in Taiwan is better than zero in the Philippines. There are still no signs of the store being built (however, the space where the store is rumored to be is already vacated). I'll update you guys with Hermes prices once it opens but I bet it's going to be too expensive. Jimmy Choo just opened here (owned by the same people that will bring in Hermes here), and the basic shoes here retail for $900-$1,200.
