this thread has a lot of information on 30cm vs 35cm. i personally like 30cm better and thinking about moving down to 25cm also. you can totally go casual with 30cm by wing batting it.

yes, colour and leather and hardware do influence perception but size 30 could still be casual and its down to how you feel about it. maybe look at the practicality of 30 vs 35 for long term satisfaction. good luck and enjoy!
