I live in Hawaii. Definitely stay in Waikiki. Ala Moana is off to the side, and the Ala Moana Hotel is nothing to look at. Old and cramped.

The Waikiki store I believe is in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, across the street from DFS Galleria.

Good morning, lovely tPFers...

I am currently vacationing in Hawaii and will be planning a 2 (maybe 3 day) junket to Honolulu this week with the express purpose of getting some shopping done (primarily at the Hermes boutiques). I am looking for a bit of advice on strategy from those of you who are familiar with the Honolulu boutiques. I have been in all three boutiques several times in past years, but it has generally only been to pick up items that I've had shipped from mainland boutiques for pickup.

I have a list of items that I would like to find - primarily scarves, jewelry, shawls, etc. Ultimately, however, I would like to find a Kelly (although I would not turn down the right Birkin given the opportunity!). Given this, I am wondering what strategy would be best?

Assuming that the items that I wish to purchase (other than a bag, of course) will total around 4 - 5k, I'm wondering if it would be best to:

a) Try one boutique (Ala Moana or Waikiki), make $1k in purchases, mention that I'm looking for a bag, see what happens. If I have no luck, try the other boutique, do the same. If I have no luck return the following day to each boutique to make my remaining purchases, ask again about a bag and see what happens; or,

b) Try one boutique, make half of my purchases, mention a bag, see what happens. If I have no luck try other boutique and do the same. Ask to be called the next day should a bag happen to turn up; or,

c) Choose one boutique, make all of my purchases if they have the stock, mention a bag, see what happens.

Basically, I'm wondering whether it's best to put all of my proverbial eggs in one basket or spread my purchases around to try and split the odds?

I am also wondering where I should start - Waikiki or Ala Moana? What about the little Galleria boutique - is it even worth it to try there?

Finally, I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for lovely SA's? I have posted the question in both the 'lovely SA's around the world' and 'B/K in Hawaii' threads, but have not received any responses. I did get a recommendation from a lovely, helpful tPFer for an Ala Moana SA, but have no leads for Waikiki. Ideally I would like to find SA's to work with ahead of time and plan my trip so that they are working both days that I am in town.

Any feedback or recommendations that anyone might be able to provide would be most appreciated. Thank you! :smile1:

SAs in Hawaii are super friendly and helpful - I've had my best experience here compared to other stores in US Asia and Paris.. Especially since I walked in with shorts and t shirt and flip flops :) For Waikiki you can look for the two Yuko - one is more senior and is the supervisor, the other one is an SA.
They generally prefer if you focus on one Store but it shouldn't really matter because they can see your purchase history across US anyway..

Galleria does not have Birkin/Kelly.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post a quick update to say that I spent the day in Honolulu today and had the most wonderful experiences at both Waikiki and Ala Moana. All of the SAs were lovely and so helpful, and I got a Birkin that I love to boot as a walk-in! I will post a more detailed summary of my encounter within the next couple of days but just had to share my excitement somewhere... I'm exhausted now after a day of hard-core Hermes shopping so I'm off to bed - goodnight!
