Happy Monday, boys and girls! I took my chances with All’Orto Botanico (cw6) as I was absolutely mesmerised with the mod shots posted by @GloWW0rM and @FA73. The shawl is absolutely stunning but sadly the colours didn’t work for me IRL (I do like headless mod shots though:smile:) Still, the piece is fabulous - if you find a CW that works for you, it is a dream! Posting a few mod shots in case anyone is interested.
PS I think it is more blue/purplish ink IRL (while on pics it might look more black.)

Thank you for these wonderful photos-- the design is undeniably gorgeous. Sorry it did not work for you @Ashanti_Rose. The blue is a very seductive option-- but then to me, the blue cw almost always is!
Thank you, dear FA. I think I will take a pass on it. This is the CW I liked the most. My mom saw me trying it on and her verdict was: “This scarf makes you look OLD!” Perhaps this is the gris de chine base that isn’t my friend in general and other CWs could potentially look better - I don’t know. Albeit, my collection is over-saturated at this point so it is a relief that I don’t have to add another one to the pile:smile:
I’m laughing at your comment because I reserved this one, went to the store on Saturday, and tried it on. I love, love, love this colorway! But my SA and the SA of the silk métier both said it wasn’t for me—not luminous enough, apparently. Because I’m stubborn and really liked it, I snapped a couple of photos while in the store and sent them to my mom and dad. The funny part? They said exactly your mom’s words: ‘That scarf makes you look old.’ And we definitely don’t want that! Lesson learned: when your SA and your parents agree, it’s time to move on (even if your heart says otherwise)!
I left the store with the green CW instead 😜
Well, you two-- this does not bode well for those of us of are --um-- actually old! But it is true, @Ashanti_Rose you have so many stunning shawls that you probably have a very defined sense of what works for you. And @SilkCouture, congratulations-- please do post mod shots as we have not seen the Vert Loden cw!
It is beautiful! This reminds me of one color of Faubourg tropical 140, but without the little golden hue here and there from the flagship building in that design.
I agree @supermommy101 -- very reminiscent although the scale of the botanicals seems larger to me.

Agree with you, both comments are not very nice!

Sorry to hear that it didn’t work for you but there is always something better around the corner when it’s not love.

Up til yesterday, I’d been very sad about Emile en Nuit this season. I really like the design and wanted one of the colorways to work but it was like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears: ‘this one’s too muted, that one’s too similar to something else I have’ etc etc.

I’d never even clicked into this cw or considered it and then a mod shot from @LKBNOLA sent me on a quest to try it on. And I’m so besotted! It makes me feel like a character in Alice in Wonderland.

I was very inspired by @julian.f ‘s image of the versatility of her d’Orphee shawl. I don’t know that this pic is as successful but it can pair with red, burgundy, navy and prob also lighter blues, plum purple, rust, beiges and even maybe a green. Essentially the majority of my autumn and winter wardrobe, I’m stoked.

Love this on you, @Jereni! This is the CW I chose for myself but my SA didn’t think it suited me with the warm tones. I left it in the store but still thinking about it!

For those wondering how the blue colorway 06 of All’Orto Botanico compares to Faubourg Tropical, some side by side pics. I ended up keeping colorway 09 instead as the pattern is a bit more muted and less bold (I also don’t have any other shawls with a pink hem!).

Great comparison. I think on pics All'Orto comes up as more black than it is in RL - which confused me. I was surprised how blue it actually was IRL when I just opened the box:smile: 09 looks splendid on you - just perfect with your blond hair!

Thank you for these comparison pictures, very helpful! Also, the cw you have chosen looks lovely on you, very luminous.

I do not have the Faubourg CSGM, only the silk, and seeing the side by side pictures with Orto helped me clarify my preference for the "no border" shawls. With exceptions, of course, as in some cases borders are the most attractive parts of design. And in case of Faubourg it provides a passepartout frame. So maybe I should amend my rule to "it depends"

My vert loden Orto has not arrived yet, and no caramel on H.com, and all the pictures of blue Orto (even with the varied success rate upon trying) make me want one, too...

If a shawl has the powers to bestow the appearance of elegance, gravitas, and wisdom that comes with age, count me in!

Regarding the All'Orto CW06, I tend to gravitate towards these, tone-on-tone colorways. It has lovely depth due to the shades of blue used. It's not dark blue (as appears in some of the pics), so it's not somber. I have a few of this genre of dense/lush designs, and this one merited purchase of another. The actual illustration of the plants and foliage is just so gorgeous.

This is an enormously helpful post @cali_to_ny. 🙏 I really appreciate the side by side. I have been almost tempted to wear my Faubourg Tropical to the boutique! I love the one you selected for yourself-- it looks lovely with your hair and coloring.

@Persimmon13-- I completely agree with you and have also developed an "it depends" rule for my own purchases. The wide border is not myfavorite part of Faubourg Tropical CSGM but it works. There is no border on Jardin de Leila au Bloc or Retour a la Nature, for example and of course both of those have contrast hems! I am very eager to see your vert loden Orto.

I agree with everything you have said @etoile de mer -- and I also love the tone-on-tone cws. To this day I would love to find the blue Maharani and the blue Cosmographia, so thei blue Orto, for all the reasons you describe has real gravitational pull...

I have also been struck by how different it even looks across the mod shots and photos here @Ashanti_Rose -- a real chameleon. I think your photos did show the blue depths, for sure.

@LKBNOLA - in fact, my mom thinks that I am old, thus I have to be careful what I wear next to my face:) hehe:) But seriously, her comment wasn't directed at the design in particular (I hope no one takes it too close to the heart as the shawl is spectacular in every right!) I show my mom my scarves and shawls - and am always curious to hear her thoughts as she doesn't know which is grail and which is not, and I know that she will tell me her thoughts without sugar-coating anything (and I have learned not to get upset either - lol). I think gris de chine isn't a flattering base for me to start with (despite me liking the design and CW so much) but compounded with dramatic detail it seemed overpowering on me and resulting in a more mature effect. I am sure there will be ladies that will look fabulous in this CWs - and sadly it is not me! As far as my collection, indeed - I noticed that I feel happier when I re-home scarves, rather when I get a new in (as I have to deal with that so familiar sense of guilt over consumption:)))

Ha, I have both shawls in your comparison photo, and also looked at them side by side! Your coloring if different than mine, and so not surprisingly, I came to a different conclusion. I need to (probably...likely) let my Faubourg go! The more minimal gris chine in the All'Orto CW06 is so much better for me. The All'Orto you chose to keep suits you so well, perfect with your coloring. Thanks for sharing. :flowers:

Thank you so much for the side by side comparison @cali_to_ny I have the Faubourg Tropical and my only hesitation with the All'Orto is.. was (lol) that it looked like it would be too similar. The only other colorway I was considering for the Orto is the one you decided on which won't work as well on me. It perfectly suits you with your blonde hair. Thank you so much for sharing these. I've got the Orto in bleu on my Christmas wish list now!

Thank you for the comparison photos @cali_to_ny. I always wanted the blue Faubourg Tropical so this is very helpful. I think I prefer the overal lighter look of the FT for me so I will probably continue to look for that one and not opt for the Orto instead.

I love the one you choose for yourself, so pretty with your lovely hair.
