Hi all, wasn't sure where else to post, but a random question for those of you with a mixture of Birkins and Kellys (Kellies?) in your collection - did you "mix and match" as your collection went along, or did you collect one style and move on to the next?

First world problems - I am very lucky to have collected a few Birkins; but the number of varietals of Kelly bags has always scared me a little bit so I am thinking hard about what to request from my SA, knowing that I'd be grateful for at least one Kelly/shoulder strap bag in my collection. Unlike the Birkin, which I think looks quite similar in aesthetic regardless of the size or sellier/retourne, I feel like each Kelly has its own vibe.

I like bigger bags so have gravitated towards B30/B35 - maybe K32 is the obvious place size-wise, but they are somewhat hard to come by. I just wondered how others in my position thought about curating their collection.

Aiming to visit a few resellers to get some ideas, but always grateful for this forum's advice!

When I started out, I was focused on having one of each – one B 35, one Kelly 28, one Evelyn, all in different colors. I was offered a blue jean B 35 fairly shortly after I bought my B3 in anemone, and I felt it was too similar as general idea of it for me to have both before I have other bags from H.

Now I think about the function first, and then decide on a bag. For example, I would like a bag thats smaller than my K28 but still Crossbody. I have a much smaller wallet now, so K 25 would be perfect. Then I think about the color. I have lots of navy and always struggle to find a bag to work with it. So gray would be ideal. That’s my thought process for my next bag.

At the same time, I’m fully open to buying a bag if I light up when I see it. I would still not get it if I know it would be directly competing with something else I already own.

My approach is practical, I carry all of my bags, I travel with them, I use everything I have. If you are thinking more from a collectors perspective, it is probably a different thought process

Anyone know why there seems to be a shortage of Chaine d’Ancre bracelets now? I never thought they were hard to get, but my SA of 10 years at NY Madison said it could be a few months for a 16 MM, and the website also says there are delays

Mix and match, to a certain extent. I started out in 2008 as an only Kelly person. I actually thought the only H bag I would ever have would be a BBk28 GHW, and that I would never buy a bag retail bc it was too expensive. (That ship sailed long ago) Then I decided that i was wrong and I was really an only Birkin person. In the midst of that, I changed from GHW to PHW (Switching HW preference is an expensive change and I don’t recommend it, if you can avoid lol). I thought my perfect size was a 28K/30B even when everyone else was carrying 32K/35B. I stopped buying bags for a decade plus, only to discover with Covid SIP, I barely carried anything. After multiples of 28/30, the thought of going through process for 25BK was too exhausting, so I have only one of B and one K in 25. I love them, but don’t wear them much. I was resistant to the idea of a mini K for a while bc I thought it would make me look fat. But, I realized that I ended up wearing my TPM mini evie the most bc I really whittled down to a card case and phone. So, I finally ended up with one mini K. I haven’t worn any of my other bags since. I probably won’t give any up any time soon bc tastes change. HTH! Have fun deciding

ETA: that’s just BK bags. I also cycled through all sizes of Evelyns, picotins, trims, and victorias, bolides, HAC 32, Paris Bombay, double sens, jige, medor, Della cav, and some discontinued vintage models too. Eventually I learned what worked. But, probably the bag I wear most is a 21 sac a depeches crossbody that I ‘borrow’ from DH.

Exactly why I’m always hesitant to give up any bags…not just H. I also used to be sure that I would/could only carry a bag with GHW and then I was offered a K28 in orange with PHW and it was ‘just right’. And apparently VC looks great with PHW.

I definitely ‘mixed and matched’ @ny.lon…no plan to speak of…own and carry both Birkins (25,30 & 35) and Kellys/Kellies 😉 (28 & 32) with both GHW and PHW despite, at one point, being sure that I’d never own a Kelly and never want PHW.

They have been a bit hard to come by for a few years now.

My SA at the Fauboug explained that demand for this piece and a few other staples was pretty high and production had a hard time keeping up, which is an Hermès classic. However, there is a real issue with the silver sector being extremely solicited and the priority not necessarily (and understandably) given to the fashion industry. Silver is expected to keep on being in high demand for the near future.

The good news for you is the 15/16/17 are pretty popular sizes so you'll have an easier time finding one but you'll still probably have to be patient.

Have you all seen this crazy headline? My dad sent it to today (his recognition of my love for the brand made me smile!)
"Police tracked him down via the license plate number of the orange Hyundai Santa Fe he drove away from the scene." Guess they are not too smart

just to share my approach, i "mix and match" along the way, and rehome those that didn't fit for some reason (and then i try to avoid the same issue in the future bags). nowhere near a collector, so i wish to use my bag practically for my lifestyle right now.
i decided that smaller size bags will work better for me as i drive and don't carry much most of the time. also cross body is more practical for me when with family (young kids). whilst i don't use my b25s much now, i know when my kids are older, i would use them more often so i still went ahead to get them when i was offered. hth
