Ck, I can fully understand how hard it is to be away from sweet Collin overnight, but as a MIL, I can also tell you how wonderful and special that first overnight visit is. I still vividly remember keeping both grands for the first time. It's amazing and wonderful. Caring for the child of ones own child is close to a religious experience. :smile1:

Is it just Collin being away overnight, or do you have other concerns about it?
Great perspective, CG! I will try to look at this from that angle. My reluctance comes from not having enough time with Collin myself. I have offered to all the grands full day visits any time in lieu of him going to daycare, but they have never taken me up on it and still claim that they never get to see him. I hear from you that overnight is a different, special experience and I will try to keep that in mind and strive to be generous with my boy.

CK, if we had that weather predicted, I'd be swinging from the rafters. We are expecting a little snow in the next couple days, but nothing like that.

With regard to Collin, if I were you, I'd take them up on it. My grands don't sleep over and I think it's because we didn't start early. (Plus you'd get a whole night of uninterrupted sleep LOL).

OB, lilOB is a doll! My younger GD loves to wear hats, coats, gloves, etc. all over -- she wears her sister's coat and hat, dad's gloves, everyone's shoes. It's adorable.

I got caught in a hailstorm grocery shopping....just now getting the chill out of my bones:p

You?

A hailstorm?? Yikes! We just watched one of our Netflix movies, Red. Not bad, not great. I don't recall who here mentioned the movie Heartbreakers having a scene with a Kelly, but I watched that last week...great movie! DH wanted to know how I picked it since I knew nothing about it; I said, oh I heard the props were fantastic :D

Thanks, Lulilu! It's funny, she won't wear her winter gear when it's actually freezing outside, but as soon as the warm weather rolls in, time to don the fleece gear!

Ck, that is tough. I hope your in laws will understand how you feel about not spending enough time with him yourself. And let them know that when he's in the throes of the terrible twos, he can sleepover as often as they want!

Nurse, thanks for the kind words, re: DS and his chosen field. Looking over the curriculum and his text books, I realize he is pretty much in pharmacy school. Oh, the Kelly, perfect size. It's the one size, I don't seem to have yet.
ck, who are you worried about? Collin or your ILs? This could be a win/win. The ILs may be perfect weekend getaway respite for you. I know you don't have enough time with him, but starting early enough, Collin doesn't really have the emotional capacity (I would think, but not certain) to form a real connection one way or the other. On the other hand, if the ILs say, "thanks, but let's do this when he is older, OK?" You will know it didn't go well and you and there is really not much lost, except a weekend from IL's life, some time that Collin won't remember, and some guilt that you may or may not forget. Collin will have a grand time, chances are the ILs will have a great time. And, you and DH have earned a weekend away to have a wonder time. I was just kidding about the other stuff. How could grands not want the babies around. Really, he's not mine and I'd want him here!!

ck -- one more thing, I spent many weekends with my grandparents (both sides) My parents were in constant turmoil and being with them was a safe place for me. This is why I have such wonderful memories of them. I'm not saying that you and Mr ck are in turmoil, but to have memories are a good thing. They are coming back to me...

Wise and insightful words, BBL.

No snow yet, despite the fact that the local stations canceled programming to cover the winter storm. To fill time the are showing footage of other storms. Funny stuff.

Collin and I made an early run to the dreaded home depot. Yesterday I realized our house has an air cleaner with a filter in dire need of replacement.

Ck, that's just dumb on their part! I jumped at every chance I had to keep the grands. I will say that having them in my own home is very special, though. And, waking up to their smiling faces is beyond bliss. I'm grateful every single day to my DS and DDIL for being so generous with their treasures.

Hi girls! I slept until 11 (with a short bathroom break for the doggies) and am still tired. Worked until 7 last night, which may have contributed to it.

I need a vacation -- a total change of place to take my mind off of work.

Sun today -- none of the "mixed precip" that had been threatened, but they say it can happen tonight too.

Anyone have a holiday tomorrow?

It's Saks double points this week, if anyone needs any enabling :). I might try to make my way to KOP for a couple of hours. Haven't been to H for a few weeks at least. Last time, though, I came home with a GM dip dye. No control at all. And I am trying to be good.

My youngest sister and her sons (and a friend) are in town. They visited mom and are now coming here. I put out an APB for my youngest son, who I know will entertain them with the computer games (or whatever they are) but he is on his way home from DC. I hope traffic is good.

It's amazing how, once your kids are grown, that little kids can seem overwhelming. Especially a posse of boys. But I love seeing my sister.

Luli, I'd say you were very good, indeed! ;)
