*Help* I live in Asia, and I will to traveling to London for the first time and visiting H stores there. Do you need to book in advance for leather department to buy a bag (both quota and non-quota)?? Any tips on how to shop?
For non-BKC bags you don’t need an appointment though the queue to be served might be long; for BKCs you also don’t need an appointment BUT you need to set up a wishlist and then it’s a waiting game until they let you know there’s a bag they can offer (if they ever want to offer one at all, many have been waiting for months and are regular local clients). It’s not possible to buy BKCs on the spot even with a high spend on the day due to the wishlist system.

have fun in London! Bond street store can be a loooong wait so best to go there when they’re open. Selfridges store is quite small and I heard they don’t sell bags to tourist unless you buy other things (jewelry & watches. there’s no ready-to-wear at this location).

Harrod’s & H Cadogan Place are approx 5min walk. Harrod’s can be very busy in the afternoon, best to get there first thing in the morning (weekdays). Weekend is like a zoo there!

try booking an appointment at Paris store (especially FSH flagship store if you have time - it’s only 2 hours by train

good luck!
Thank you so much! All these are very useful. Im going there for business so I’ll try Bond st store in the morning. They will offer non quota bag if there’s a stock even if you don’t make any other purchase? Or you need to show that you are shopping other goods too?

Thank you!!! The system is quite different from where I live where there isn’t a wish list. Very useful tips and I appreciate it!

Last time I was at bond store, nothing was available (I got there 1 hour after opening). I managed to get a non-quota bag at Harrod’s but it’s pure luck as they just received shipment that morning).

As others have said, 99.9% unlikely to score a quota bag...

However, if you are intending to spend a lot of money at a variety of designer concessions, and it amounts to £10,000, if you do all that at Harrods it will get you their black rewards card. This then gets you access to their higher level personal shoppers, who can SOMETIMES (again, rarely, in my experience) get a BKC without an established H spend.

I always feel like Harrods is somewhere you can effectively buy access to limited edition items across all sorts of brands (eg Chanel new releases as well), and that how often you shop there / whether you're a 'regular' doesn't matter as much to them as in some of the brand specific boutiques.

Worth pointing out that spending £10,000 at Harrods may get you the Black tier of their rewards system, but it does NOT automatically give you access to the By Appointment personal shopper service that you are referring to. The service is by invitation only and not all Black tier rewards members qualify. Also I think I read somewhere on this thread that a few years ago the personal shoppers *might* have been able to pull some strings to get their customers BKCs but since then H has decided not to deal with third parties (Harrods personal shoppers included) when it comes to quota bags, so this service will not help.

That's interesting, thanks for clarifying, about not auto-qualifying for By Appointment / The Penthouse. I've qualified on 3 or 4 separate occasions, including a few months ago, Every time, I got an email inviting me to book a time within 24 hours of qualifying to that level, so just presumed it was an automatic perk. I feel like a 'proper' VIP now getting those emails lol. Sorry for misleading anyone.

You say "might have been able to pull some strings" implying that I'm not speaking from experience / knowledge. I am being honest and open: they really could pull the H strings, at least occasionally, and a few times when not even asked LOL. My most recent experience on a B being set aside by a Harrods Personal Shopper was about a year ago, but maybe it was because of the pandemic there was a bag going spare or whatever.

Appreciate your clarification, Gelato, as guessing you've more experience of the Hermès / Harrods system than me  Love hearing others' knowledge - bag and knowledge nerd here hehe!!

Maybe you can also answer my question from earlier given your H at Harrods (HeAtHa?!) knowledge - can I currently drop a bag there to be sent to the Spa?

No worries  And sorry I can’t answer your earlier question about the H spa as I’ve never used this service!

I have a question I hope this thread is the correct one for it. I will be in Paris this month and planning to go by train to London , I and not an EU citizen . I've heard that you have to pay tax if you are a tourist and coming to the UK from Europe with new purchased goods from any European country. Is it true ?

Yes it's true. You should declare, although I'm sure many people don't do it either because they don't know or otherwise. My friend coming from Singapore to London but they spent a few days in Paris. The customs officers charged them a lot of duty when they entered London. Something like 20% + small fee for not declaring.

I go to Harrods quite a lot and I think the key is to build a relationship with the SAs in the Womenswear section. Harrods Womenswear and NBS are the only places where I have had the "Hermes Experience".
I overheard one SA explaining that they prioritise bags for clients that are "regular customers". The SAs in the women's wear department at Harrods are very nice I'm sure if you're polite and purchased an item or two they'll put in good word

Hey all - apologies for the simultaneously naive and direct question but just wanted to ask...now the waitlist system appears to be the prevailing system, does it mean that all quota bags go via the wishlist allocation system or are there clients out there who are still able to get those bags via a direct relationship with an SA pulling the strings for them. I assumed the latter but curiosity and need for clarity and closure are encouraging me to ask the question
