Hermes Authentication Services

I know the OP already said that the issue has been dealt with & resolved. But I was duped before by a "popular seller and a highly trusted authenticator" (who I will both not name here because I don't like to be bashed by their fans & patrons. I am only sharing this as proof that you can't be too cautious and trusting about things like this). The B was missing a lock and for H to reorder one, they need to see the B first. Upon seeing the purse, I was told something like: "Oh no, this is not our purse!" And of course, a padlock was not ordered. I sent it back to the seller, and luckily, I was able to get my money back. And no, they didn't confiscate and destroy the "B".

The bag was not confiscated because it had not been handed in to Hermes for spa.

No one buys a B25 and flips it the next day for a premium because they don't like small bags. They do it for money.

If there is a moral to this story, it's that the only bag you can trust is the one you take home from the boutique yourself. Authenticators disagree, Hermès has made its own mistakes, and resellers most definitely make mistakes.

At this point I even worry a bit about someone returning a fake to H, it gets re-shrinkwrapped, and goes home with an unsuspecting buyer.

Agreed that it’s likely my first and last time buying from resellers, too much worry about authenticity for such a $$$

However, “your worry someone returning a fake to H? And H resells it to another buyer.” It’s actually not possible.

1. H always checks authenticity of the bags before taking them in. Too much risk of them if they accidentally resells a fake bag from the boutique.
2. Take my case for example, the seller didn’t actually give receipt with order number to me. All the sensitive information is redacted like order number cashier sales associates etc. I can’t go in and return the bag and get money to my own Hermes account with that receipt
3. I wouldn’t do it anyway, that means I am losing thousands of dollars, if the bag is really counterfeit, I should report the seller and claim my money back from PayPal.

Btw RA gave me the refund! Case closed

This isn't what I am saying at all.

There is a popular scam with handbags where the scammer buys a designer bag, returns a fake in its place, and resells the real bag. It has happened many times with other brands, usually at larger multi-brand stores.
That is what I am talking about.

And no, I don't trust every Hermès SA to authenticate a bag they are accepting for return.

So, yes, actually, it is possible.

And yes, case closed. Enjoy your bag.

Agree. Otherwise, why not return. I’m personally not a fan of this type of resale.

i buy both QBs from the boutique as well as from recommended resellers. Professional authentication cost is a drop in the bucket, so I wouldn’t skimp on it. I suggest buying from a longtime professional vendor that you trust (one that accepts returns and takes Amex via paypal). I also strongly advise using an authenticator for independent confirmation before purchase. I prefer not to buy flipped bags in part bc I don’t wish to pay the premium, but also for other reasons JMO.

I know this is off topic but I'm actually sickened by the thought of someone accepting a bag from boutique in a highly popular spec and then flipping it the next day for a profit when others wait to get the bag of their dreams for months and often years.
Greed is a sickening trait and I really hope people who buy to flip like this get found out by the brand.

Yes It will be great to get authentication before purchase. Unfortunately, most resellers in Singapore do not allow that. They expect full payment first then we authenticate. If the bag is not authentic, they claim they will do a full refund. So far, only one reseller in Singapore helps with authentication after we pay a deposit.

Most would not IRL. I meant via numerous professional vendor photos (from the listing and if necessary additional requests) when at all possible

I'm no expert here but totally agree with you @QuelleFromage . I'm in Canada, and the Store Manager at LV at Yorkdale mall said this is exactly what has happened a few years ago. Perhaps that is why they moved to nicrochips in the bag?

As for people flipping bags, there are consignment stores in Toronto who get bags straight from the Bloor street location, right to their shop. They are 100 percent authentic. I am the crazy one too who bought an Evelyne tpm brand new unworn, for twice the price. But nowhere near the price of a flipped Kelly or Birkin. For exanple, a Kelly Picnic 20cm sold for $62,000 CDN

Thanks! I hope the OP comes to understand that such things aren't impossible.

I know there are Hermès SAs who have channels that deliver pretty directly to resellers (at least as fast as @Serenasmiling's bag turned around) but they do regularly also get fired. Anyway, we are OT now and since OP has solved their issue, no point in digging deeper :flowers:

I believe Hermes is wise to this ploy and it is not a good idea to try some variant of it.
It's not a "ploy". I bought an "H" bag and there was no lock. Obviously I wouldn't use a gym locker's padlock to complete the look of my newly purchased "B"..so I brought it to H to purchase one because they required me to do so.
Also, it is not illegal to bring in a bag and ask them for their opinion. In addition, I was just stating my own experience that it was not confiscated.
Anyways, back to topic..not saying one should or should not bring their bags to H for authentication. The owner gets to decide what they want to do with their bags. All I am saying is one can never be too careful and too cautious on things like this. It is good too that the OP has implied that the issue has been resolved to her satisfaction.

Apologies. I did not mean to accuse you, but I can see how it looks that way.
You had explained why you took the bag into Hermes.

In my defence, if one goes back a few years there was an authentication ruse that became popular.
Because Hermes would not authenticate a bag if it were just taken into the boutique, some people took their bags in on the pretext of sending them for spa, knowing that fake bags would not be accepted - an easy way for authentication. Whether the genuine bags were then sent to spa is neither here nor there.
Hermes became aware of this ploy and tightened up the procedure.
