hahaha my thoughts exactly!! Jen I know you will have a beautiful blinging solitaire when all is said and done!!! can't wait to see what you end up with.

Thanks guys!

I'm getting really excited... I got a few more diamond certificates today and the one I was hoping and hoping would come back with great scores did! :) :) :) The 2.10 G VS2 is on it's way here and it scored 1.7 on the HCA as an "excellent" performer in the TIC range - YAY! Got ex/ex/ex/vg - the only one that topped it by a smidge (also ex/ex/ex/VG) was the 2.0 G VS1 with a score of 1.3, and it is $4K more... I'd happily trade {an added .10 size and $4K savings} for the VS1-2 jump. Both officially fall within the "AGS 0 - candidate" range (so "ideal" cut). So those are the two I'm going to decide between it looks like - YAY!

I am still trying to work out just how much the HCA relates to actual human eye performance... all of these rings are within at least GIA "excellent" parameters but one she showed me was a 2.03 Tiffany ex/ex/ex ... but on the HCA calculator was a bit of a dog! Came back at 4.3, "Good - only buy if price is your main criterion". Ouch! I mean that sounds not so great but I still don't know how MUCH that means... but either way I'm focusing on some serious performers! :)

When are they coming? Do you think you'll be able to take pics of them? I'm so interested to see them now. I never knew about "scores" until recently, I can't wait to hear your actual real life performance opinion. I just upgraded too, I so wonder what I would have done if I had all this info at the time. I went with fancy so it doesn't really apply, but intriguing nonetheless! What a fun real life distraction in boring dreary January.

I think in a couple of weeks? They are both on their way from the US. I can't wait! I have to say I'm really enjoying the distraction ... I find it interesting and kind of a fun challenge to get the best stone I can find - even at Tiffany's!

Just reading some price scope forums and most seem to agree with something Ame said earlier - that 1.5 and say 4.3 are a big difference visually. I had decided anything from 1-2 was more than acceptable so am thrilled to bits that I found two in my sweet spot that fit that description! :) I'm really excited - will definitely try to take pics! :)

I’m terribly sorry to highjack this thread, but I have a question regarding the Tiffany upgrade program and I didn’t want to start a new thread… :smile1:

For sentimental reasons, DH nor I would be able to part from the original stone my DH proposed with, so I wanted to now if Tiffany would allow you to pick a new diamond, have it put in your Tiffany setting and have your original stone reset in, let’s say a necklace?
So you wouldn’t trade in your original stone, you just would have it reset into a necklace..

My MIL is doing this right now (non-Tiffany) and I was just curious whether Tiffany would allow this too! :smile1:

TIA!

Hey Kath, no worries!

Okay so I'm going to say definitely yes they would IF your original ring is from Tiffany's and your new ring is from Tiffany's. If the original is non Tiffany's then I don't think so, no. I think I've actually asked that once on behalf of my sister who had the same issue - loved her (non-Tiffany's) stone, not her original setting. Birks here WOULD take her diamond and put it into one of their settings, but Tiffany's will not set a non-Tiffany diamond into their settings.

I think it's a great idea to make the original into a pendant!

I understand the sentimentality... my original original ring that he proposed with went missing just after we moved/did some renos... I was devastated. I'd been taking it off a lot since the eternity band was ill-made somehow (I think the tiny diamonds extended past the band of gold?) and was scratching my fingers AND my e-ring a lot, and the diamond in the e-ring had come loose enough to spin (it was from a local jeweller) and so I'd taken it off a lot until I got it fixed... The one I'm replacing now was the replacement ring so I'm not too attached to it! :)

Thanks for the swift reply! :smile1:
My e-ring is a Tiffany solitaire and I already own a (tiny) Tiffany solitaire pendant, so that is definitely good news!
Not for now, though.. But who knows, maybe as a push present one day... :graucho:

I really shouldn't spend that much time on TPF! Day after day, I see all those pretty puppies here... And all of a sudden, I have acute DSS!!
I even talked my MIL into an upgrade! She was going to buy a diamond solitaire pendant and she took me with her to look at some stones. We were looking at one carat diamonds, and they were really pretty on her, but as she is rather big-boned (I don’t know how to explain it, she is rather skinny, but her frame is just heavier, I guess), we both agreed she should also try stones in the 1.5 to 2 carat range.
And although it is really rare to see that large e-rings where we live, I convinced her to reset the diamond of her e-ring (.90 carat) into a necklace and have the new stone (of the bigger range) put into her ring! I'm crazy! :smile1:

So sorry to hear about the loss of your original e-ring! I hope your new one can ease the pain, but I'm sure it will! :smile1:

Well this wouldn't have anything to do with an upgrade. You would buy a new, full, pre-set ring and then in a separate transaction, ask to have your original diamond reset from your ring into a pendant. I'm sure they'd be willing to do this, they might charge you a few bucks for the pendant setting though. They would probably do this even without you buying another ring...

I think you're right acrowcounted. It would be a "reset" and would probably cost maybe $800 or so? I know the value they are deducting from my old ring (to melt down the setting etc) is $900 so I'm guessing it would be about that much more to set an old stone into a pendant. But it shouldn't be a problem! :)

So I would have to buy a new ring as well (by which I mean the setting)? Or can I just buy a new diamond, you think?
It's hard to explain, but I guess I would prefer to have a new (Tiffany) diamond put in my old (Tiffany) ring and have my current diamond set into my (Tiffany) pendant? That way, I can at least keep a part of my original e-ring...

PS. This really is my last post on this topic in your thread!!
