Help me pick a Tiffany diamond!

I think it's fabulous that you're upgrading your diamond! You're husband is ONE amazing man!

I could be mistaken, but I was informed by Tiffany's that with any purchase over $100k, they really go above-and-beyond in terms of exceptional service and sales expertise & show very rare, "exceptional" diamonds. My girlfriend had this experience with Tiffany's but her fiancé decided on a Graff purchase instead.

I cannot imagine that the store Manager or in-house gemologist hasn't discussed these specs with you, or am I missing something? For the price, I would imagine you are getting one amazing stone. Why the doubt? I find details and specs tables, percentages etc.... a rather private matter, but what I find puzzling is why you'd be second guessing this purchase from such a company?

Mind you, Ame is our diamond expert extraordinaire! I can see why you'd want her opinion. A purchase such as this one is not to be taken lightly- you need all the expertise you can get! :smile1:

Cannot wait to see the final ring on your finger

You're right Contessa! On everything. I'm wondering why I'm doing this to myself too - I DO love and trust the Tiffany's brand and have never wished I had gone anywhere else, and actually almost everything I've discovered along the way here has made me more confident in them, not less - so that's good news! :)

Yes DH is awesome! :) And nooooo this isn't going to be even close to $100K. The most expensive one I've considered is in the high 50's total (would be upgrading against that with my original) and the others were in the 40's. Truthfully I think the $56K or $59K one will win out in the end. Not chump change for sure and a LOT for us! But not high rollin' either! :)

I think I just have too much time to think about the 4 rings as they are trickling over the border so am trying to find out everything I can about them! I don't want to have any doubts. I've just suddenly realized how MUCH more there is to a diamond than the 4C's and the ex/ex/ex factor. Tiffany's will definitely give you all the specs, I just don't have them on one or two of the rings yet... and honestly I'm kind of having fun learning about this! Also was trying to figure out why one particular one was so much more expensive than the others - just to really educate myself. But I've kind of come full circle on all of this and am feeling like the one that really sings to me in the store will be the one I walk with without dwelling TOO much on stats. Trying very hard to weed out what exactly the naked eye can appreciate and not worry too much about 1% here or there. But it is interesting...

The one thing that made me question at first was that my triple excellent Tiffany's ring only scored a 3.9 on the HCA scale and said "buy if the price is right" - which seemed like it didn't really make sense. So I just wanted to make sure with this one that I'd covered all the bases.

I just cannot wait to see them in real life!! Eeee!

Good luck Jen!! All of them are going to be breathtaking, you just gotta pick with your eyes, don't worry too much about the little details, especially since Tiffany already has the diamonds picked out for you. It's true you want your diamonds to look good on paper, but I think what looks good to you (and subsequently others) in person matters most!

Thanks Khol! I know I'll be thrilled in the end - just want to make sure I choose the perfect one for me! (so easy to get wrapped up in all this!!! It's a fun distraction from real life right now!)

Just stumbled on it here:

Well that's good to know! Saw this recently too - good to know when looking at diamonds!
Interesting site. Its like he's compiled all the various lab info, pricescope info, etc. into one thing.

This is for hearts and arrows but almost too complicated for me to read!

Well this isn't AGS in this link, it's actually AGA which is an appraisal firm owned by David Atlas. I am pretty sure he got himself "into the business" and is no longer truly an independent appraiser anymore which is unfortunate.

Surfergirl, I will say that the certificates and stats on diamonds while important, isn't THE most important element. YOU have to love it. The thing with Tiffanys is that ALL of their diamonds are high quality- you as a client are paying for that after all. Tiffanys isn't going to sell sub-standard stones.

There are some women who only want clear, flawless, colorless diamonds......anything below a "D" is unacceptable. My current diamond is gorgeous and surpasses the quality of my former cushion. But you know something? My cushion had character! Even though it was a superior cut etc.....and was F in color, it also emitted these rainbow-like flashes which I really, really miss! When I look back at the photos, I can appreciate that now.

In my opinion, a diamond has to have character, sparkle, and I have to love it because I AM the one who will be looking at it ALL THE TIME.

Personally I'd stop obsessing about the stats and just go there and SEE which one you love. You might surprise yourself how easy and effortless it will all become :smile1:

Good advice!
Since grading is subjective, no stats can measure how you'll feel when you see a stone IRL. You did the right thing, Jen....asking for several stones, within your perimeters, to look at. One will sing to you!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Exactly.

And I've seen excellent stats on paper, but the diamond was "so-so" IRL.

Thanks ladies! Really good advice and good to be reminded not to get too worked up over the teeny details too. IMHO when I walk into Tiffany's and see the case with all the classic solitaires there is just nothing more perfect so I'm sure it will be a gorgeous stone regardless!!!

And you're right Contessa, there is beauty to be found in all different ways and the "best" isn't ALWAYS the best to the eye so I'll just try to find the most beautiful ring in my price range! :)

ps just for fun, found pics of my 1.5 when it was brand new! (My band is so scratched up right now!)

So this... but BIGGER!!!
