Help finding an ‘Indiana Jones' satchel

I like this Coach a lot. Thanks! I only have one Coach bag and never carry it but the Field bag is nice.

Isabellam, I really appreciate you taking the time to search, and I like a couple of the bags you found, but I don't eBay....ever. Had some CC fraud issues with PayPal and won't EVER use it again. Bought about $10 worth of yarns to weave with and got hit up with over $1500 of fraudulent charges. Got resolved but never again. My first, and last, eBay/ PayPal transaction.

I hear you! Ebay can be a scary place, as you have experienced. How about new Coach: http://www.coach.com/online/handbag...62&t2Id=5000000000000052055&tier=2&LOC=LN#676

The Frye may get slouchy with use. I have it and the leather isn't super thick. It's like 4" when not stuffed but I'd say it accordions out to 5-6 when it's full. The shoulder strap is not adjustable by the way.

Thanks for your thoughts on the depth of the bag. Really useful to me.

The strap has no adjustment holes at all? Really ?
That's kind of dumb.
I like to wear bags with the strap shortened to a 16" drop.

Yeah, it's weird considering the other Cameron bags have holes in the straps. What's even weirder is where the strap attaches. There are no grommets at the sides so the strap attaches to the top handle which means that you can't ever really walk around with the flap open comfortably since the bag will be hanging a bit funny. You could attach the strap to the little straps at the side of the bag but that was not meant to be and I bet it would put undue pressure on the straps and stretch them.

You could take a look at the magazine shoulder bag too; it's smaller but looks good to me. Has none of these issues that I know of. I might get that and sell the satchel. Don't get me wrong; the satchel's great but you'd have to fasten the hinge lock after every time you open it.

I just had to return my DB large Florentine Satchel in Natural because the leather was too prone to spotting and dye transfer. I really thought that DB was going to be an 'it' bag for me after drooling over it for a year. Sad to see it go but can't deal with leather that is that fussy.

I'm looking for your help in finding a bag of similar carrying capacity that looks saddle-baggy or like a Indiana Jones satchel. It has to be real leather and earth tone colors, though I'd consider a true, deep red or a dark blue. I want to stay away from unfinished leather. Looking for a bag about 14-18 inches wide, 9-11 inches high and around 5-6 inches deep, depending on the other dimensions I might be able to get away with 4" deep. I could consider a N-S bag as well as an E-W orientation.

I like beat up looking bags but don't mind aging them myself. I have been looking at the Frye Cameron Satchel, not sure of the depth as different stores give different measurements and torn between Cognac and Taupe.

I'm on a limited budget, I really can't go over $450. This will be a daily-use bag, I don't change my bags often.

I read tPF avidly and I know folks here can help me out! Thanks a bunch.
Hi Pye128,

How bout this one from etsy.com.

I like that "Indiana Jones" look, too!

Or take a look at this seller. They offer custom made bags, too.

I was going to suggest Frye, then saw someone else already had! You may also want to check out Coach men's bags, and also UGG -- they may have something that fits the style and price range you're looking for.

I'm not sure I mind having to secure the flap every time, I do that anyway. But the non-adjustable strap thing is idiocy. Why wouldn't you take a few minutes to punch some strap holes when manufacturing?
The magazine bag is nice but too small. Thanks for the suggestion, though, it made me take a look at the Frye bags again, not anything on there but the Cameron Satchel that I like.

Hey Agirl, thanks for the links. The first Etsy link: don't want an open tote.
The second link, though, I spent HOURS looking at her bags the other night until I got confused by the possibilities. Aren't her bags beautiful? And I love that they are handmade in the US

Hey Cats, thanks for the ideas. Will go look at Coach men's and Ugg right now.

I saw this great bag from Ralph Lauren--not leather but definitely has that vibe and it is $145.00 on sale on the RL site (originally $248)

Tejas, I like the look of the canvas and leather, definitely has the right vibe. I'd like a full leather satchel this time around. The RL you posted reminded me of a bag at The Territory Ahead that I've eyed for years. They change the bag a little every year, I liked the previous iteration a little better but here's the 2012 model:

And Eddie Bauer has a canvas and leather one, too, though I don't care for the full front flap.

Just spent another hour looking at her bags. The 3 Way Porter XL is really nice. Not the satchel I was originally looking for but such a nice bag. Love the thick drawstrings and interior organization!

I emailed her through her regular website about a leather that isn't fragile like the DB Vachetta.

Do we somehow have completely different Frye Cameron Satchels? Mine does have metal rings on the sides where I attach the strap and the leather on mine is really thick.
