ChristyR143, my thoughts mirror what you are saying alot. (BTW thanks for the compliment)

I initially was going to choose the princess because I felt the round was the same ring I had before and like you said maybe "ordinary".
Funny the size of the new big round is the size I thought the old (smaller) round was...until I put it back on my finger (it shrank!!!). The mind is funny. Its definitely a different ring.

Kellybag, they are both about the same size and height. Perhaps the square shape grounds it more on my hand?

Hemlock, your comments are all valid as i do want something I can wear years down the line. I've been reading that square shapes are now gaining on rounds: they are the 2nd most popular shape to buy( princess radiant, cushion ..all squarish shapes). I've been trying to get it caught ( even in gloves) to no avail. Was hoping that would eliminate 1.

You are ALL really helping me hash this out.

Let's keep helping...

What is your reaction when you put each one on? How do you feel? What are your thoughts? Also, what does your husband love on your hand?

Also...I love how a new, larger stone seems so big...then, as you wear it you are use to it and it seems smaller. LOL

Ahertz, here are the rings side by side with bad florescent lighting and also the best pics I had of the prongs close up.

They are different but very similiar.

One of my DH's reasons for preferring the round is that the round has 6 large prongs while the square only has four. His choice is purely functional. Lol.

He likes both but prefers the round and says he'll like what I like 'cuz if I'm happy, he's happy. Definitely a man who's been married a long time :-) ( we've been together for 19 years married 10)

Tough, tough call! They both are lovely and both look nice on your hand. I kind of prefer the round for myself-have you considered a cushion cut at all?

Congrats on either one-you really can't go wrong!:smile1:

Kellybag,
I tried on everything but was drawn and wowed by the princess. I wanted a new ring and didn't feel it was worth upgrading if the new one looked like the old one.
We went back and my DH made a case for the round. We were shown a better round that was more beautiful than the first. It in no way looked like my old smaller round.

I was then stuck.

When I look wear the rings at home I tend to look at the princess more (maybe cuz its new and I'm not familiar with it and how it reacts to light) and my first thought is "wow"! When I wear the round I don't expect it to be any different from my old round one ( remember my mind thinks the new one is the size of the old one) till I look down and go "damn".
And DH says he just likes curves and circles.

I agree with your husband, a rounded shape is just more soothing to look at. I personally hate princess cut stones. The sharp angles just don't look nice to me, especially in large sizes.

I voted for the round. The wedding band is a circle, the engagement ring is a circle, the stone should be a circle, or at the very least, rounded. 90 degree angles are too harsh for a woman's hand, especially in a solitare.

You could always go somewhere in the middle and get a cushion cut. :graucho:

Both have lovely side views and I don't think either are particularly high, so I don't think that will be a problem. It sounds like your husband does have a definitive opinion, though, and I think that's what would sway me.

The way I always try to make a decision like this is to just pick one, decide in my head that it's the only option and then try to figure out if I'm disappointed at all. If I'm disappointed, I go with the other one! Does that make any sense??
