I have a friend who works for Irish Distillers, Tara, I'll ask her if she has any tips. Will you be in Dublin?

I don't think so Indiana as we are staying in Cork and visiting our company factory there so as far as I know the rest of the time will be in the hotel. My DH tends to like very peaty malts, so any tips would be most welcome.:graucho:

I would definitely make a trip to it Tara if you are not flying from there and wanting a current bag. When I was planning a Mitzy purchase about a year ago, the big Oak Mitzy was £495 in the Mulberry shops, but only £430 at the T5 shop. I was on a domestic flight to Manchester, and was told that would be the price I would pay.

Thanks MG, it does really depend on my recent purchases, though I do have doubts not about the strap of one of them... Not sure it will work for me but I will see when and if it arrives and then disclose all.:graucho:

If it's no good I may well have a look, it's just the 30% off at Mulberry.com seems hard to beat.

im confused, i thought airport prices were the same as shop prices - do they only deduct tax if you live in another country? im going on honeymoon next summer and may just wait for my next purchase if that is the case...

Airport goods are either duty free ( no excise duty) or tax free (no VAT).

Now interestingly (or not!) the last time I flew from T5, the mulberry sales assistant said they were duty not tax free and the discount was 15% ish rather than the VAT rate of 17.5. This fits with MG's mitzy figures. 430 is 15% off 495.

He said in Jan, the duty would go up and the discount would be 17-18% in line with the VAT rise to 20.

I checked this out at the time and the world duty free shops sell bags etc at tax free not duty free. Duty free is for ciggies and booze.

Not sure if mulberry are wrong in not deducting the full amount of VAT.

My head hurts now. Hope that makes sense!!

IKWYM ML, I could not understand why I could apparantly buy a bag cheaper than in the shops. But, I have bought make up a few pounds cheaper at manchester Airport when I was flying to IOM, so maybe it was real enough!!

Thank's ML and MG. maybe that is correct. I remember my colleague who got her Mulberry at Gatwick saying it was significantly less that full price and it was an Oak bayswater. Not faulty or in the sale, but she didn't say by how much.

To be honest, the two bags I have ordered from the Mulberry.com sale will be the best bargain at 30% off and unless I really am not happy with them, I think I will bypass T5. I don't think there is anything else I really like. Well, except I could do with a small black clutch for evening meals when on work conferences. Just nothing too big so it can sit on the table.

Oh and I have to be honest, I do like the Lily and the Gracie for a small bag when you don't want to carry much. Fenwick's has both in and I have just cleared my 4 pymts plan early so once I decide on my sale purchases and pay for them, these may well be my next purchase. Well only one of them, maybe!!!

It's always worth a tiny look in the T5 mulberry shop TB as the SA's are helpful and everything is cheaper even though I am not sure of the exact % due to the VAT vs duty thing.
If you ting them they will tell you what they have in and how much it is. They will put aside some styles for you- but not popular ones like Alexa.
They held a lovely choc ant messenger for me for a week!!!! Can't recall the exact price but it was a saving. Also bought a keyring and an Edie bracelet whilst I was there - the only thing not discounted was the collonil spray!!!

I had a very frustrating experience at Heathrow earlier this year - I can't remember which terminal, (definitely not 5 though), but we were due to take off at 6:45am and although I knew I'd be cutting it fine, the Mulberry shop was due to open at 6am so I figured I'd have a good 10 mins before we had to head off to the departure gate. Well 6am came and went, the lights were all on, the staff were in place, but they didn't open the store - the metal grill thing was raised only by about a quarter. I caught the eye of one of the staff members and asked if they were open, to be told "yes, in a few minutes!" Well a few minutes later they STILL weren't open to customers and I had to go and get my flight.

To say I was furious was a bit of an understatement.....:censor:

Oh no MF that's terrible. I hope you sent Mulberry an E mail complaining. Sounds like the SA couldn't be bothered. I hope they are on commission as that would be a bitter blow for them.
