Heads Up!! Macys Friends And Family 20% Off (includes Coach)

So if you already have a Macy's account, is there any way to apply again and get that discount? I know the Gap allows you to re-apply as long as you've had the card for sometime, and they will give you the 'new applicant' discount and send you a new card in the mail. Anyone know if Macy's does that?

no macy*s does not do that unless you havent used your card in awhile and it was deactivated. you can try and get someone you know to open the card

May I know if Macy will provide gift receipt and gift boxes just like the Coach store? I'm thinking of getting a bag for my mum for Mother's Day. :)

macy*s doesnt do gift receipts anymore. when you purchase something (excluding LV), they will put a sticker on it that tracks how you paid and how much you paid. The sticker (CRL) is all that is required for someone to return the item.

I think only the bigger macy*s have Coach gift boxes. Macy*s San Francisco does for sure

Hey Mellow _yellow_jen or katrynar

since you both have worked for Macys

do you gals realzie how bad this kind of stuff is for your credit report? ugh.....makes me wanna cry

the more cards and more applications you have, the lower and more hits there are on your credit score

^ i dont know anythnig about credit cards i just got my 1st one through macys (thought i was getting a macys card turns out its a visa and a macys card?) either way Its my 1st so hopefully it is ok, but COURT what does all that mean? hits on credit scores?

i didnt think it was bad to have lots of CC's as long as you paid them all off in time ?? :) enlighten me im new to the CC world (i tried to stay away as long as possible cause they scare me! ;) )

it really has nothing to do with paying them off, it matters that you keep low/no balances and don't make any late payments. but every time you open a cc, they look at your credit report and its a little 'hit', its small, but if you do this all the time, it adds up, and then when you go to buy a house or a car, etc you might be unplesantly surprised at a lesser credit score which leads to a higher interest rate on the loan, which ends up costing WAYYY more in the long run (I'm being a little dramatic here, but it's to show the point)

bottom line, opening all of these cc's just to get 10%, 15% etc off for a day or two isn't worth the trouble that comes with it. plus, if you don't pay it off right away, the interest on store cards is almost always 20% or more, which is AWFUL! compared to a regular cc (my visa cc has a fixed apr of 5.99%)

here's a really good article that explains it from a professional

hey bessie, to be honest i cant remember if the 20% applies to the higher-end watches (eg movado, gucci, etc) but I know it does apply to the other brands.

THANKS!!

AND COURT THANK YOU for the link and the explanation since i am so new to it its great to have more info so i dont make mistakes now and regret them later :)

it does work for watches... and she s right about the opening and closing of the cards... only do it if you will save a big deal!

and for macys, it has to be 3 yrs since u used it. do NOT tell them you had a card before, some new associates get confused and say no automatically. when you process the credit, it will say on the temporary card if u get the discount or not. it will say either 4 options:

reactivation without discount
reactivation with discount
ANA # something something, by then the associate has to call customer service and they have to verify some of your information
or you will receive a letter in the mail (usually means you are declined)

Katrynar, I've being declined by Macy CC before. I'm not sure if I qualify now. Do you know if I can check with Macy whether I qualify for the card but only officially apply it on the day of the Sales so as to take advantage of the discount? I'm so excited about the Sales!

you can call the credit customer service number and ask them if you qualify, I dont know if they will tell you though without you having to go through the application process so it's probably best just to go on the day that you want to save and apply again.
