I've been MIA about posting but I have been reading on occasion. Too much going on for me to do more than that for now. But honestly, speculating about the state of HH's finances and staying power, simply because they are offering a Groupon is not really fair. Perhaps they are simply trying to broaden their online customer base since they no longer have a retail store in Manhattan, and have modified their retail policies so that few if any brick and mortar or online boutiques carry their merchandise?
That being said, even if the Groupons are only good until May, if you crunch the numbers, this is a chance to purchase the cuffs that were not on sale last week. $75 for $150 of merchandise only at full price with no other discounts or codes applicable. I haven't had a chance to actually look at the offer, but what I'm wondering is whether or not they can be used on merchandise that has been discounted on the site because Groupon's/HH's terms state valid on sale items, but the HH sample sale terms on HH's site was no codes or discounts could be applied..does that pertain to Groupons as well??
As far as a Groupon being "worth it", I think it depends on whether or not a)you need something and have the funds for it allocated and/or b) you aren't buying for the sake of buying.
But if you aren't breaking a ban or do have the financial wherewithall, then perhaps it may well be worth it for a specific bag, to reduce the price by $75 if you "must have it" before it goes on sale, or in my case, I would probably splurge for the Mystery Scarf if it ever surfaces again, because I missed out on it due to my need to wait for it to be reduced.
As far as SLGs.. for example as
Sallyca pointed outtRamones retail for $190. Factoring in the cost of the Groupon, it breaks down to $115 for both or $57.50 apiece. That means you can purchase any two Ramones for the same price which only the Chocolate one was offered by HH during this last sale. So many of you who missed out, or wanted a different color, can purchase if you are so inclined.
Two Celinas, (reminder, during the sale, only the Marmot Chestnut was offered at a discount) at $85 each or $170 before a Groupon will cost you $95 ($75 plus the $20 difference ($170-$150=20+$75 Groupon cost) or $47.50 apiece....and so on and so forth.
In fact, when I think about it, those of you who couldn't make it to the brick and mortar to get the Ramones at 50% off are actually better off than NYers who could make it there..$5.00 round trip by subway plus 8.85% NYC tax is more expensive than shipping cost of $9.95 sans NYC tax. In fact, as I mentioned, even though I do live in NYC and have to pay shipping (unless I purchase instore..saving myself a whopping $4.95 after paying the subway fare, but gaining access to some samples at times) and NYC tax on everything HH, I may consider splurging for one even though I am on major austerity. I want to buy a cuff for each of my DD's for their respective BD's.
One more thing, totally OT about Groupons. Just got my order..well, not mine..more like permitting the use of PP funds and being repaid in installments by working DD's. Older DD asked me to order her the Brown Barrow and Guarde Chainbag in Blac/Dusk/Gunmetal HW, younger DD asked for the Guarde in Doe/GT HW. Doe is the color of milk chocolate..little if any red..almost a taupe/brown.
IMHO the Barrow is divine. Soft suede, feels like cotton velvet, not quite Brandy in color.I'm going to be "borrowing" it on occasion.
The Guarde Chainbags were well worth the $83.50..and even more. Gorgeous leather, supple handfeel, beautifully designed, easy and comfortable to wear (DD the younger and I can even crossbody..DD the older can use it only as a shoulder bag.) These smaller Guardes do not hold a wallet the size of an HH turnlock wallet but will hold a smaller wallet and much more. Outer back pocket, inside compartments, perfect going out bag if you don't want to schlep a larger bag with you.
OK..I want to say hi to everyone in the hangout, but I have very little time to reveal, review, post photos, or chat at the moment. Please bear with me. We are beginning to get back on an even keel here but it will be at least a month if not more before I can join in the fun. Just know that DD is doing much better, we are in a major state of flux and in some ways limbo, DH & I dealing with "issues" at work, some health stuff (nothing too serious) and I'm sorting the rest out day by day.
OK..even longer post than usual..I haven't posted in a long time..so it's probably similiar to a dude who has "abstained" for too long... if you catch my drift

!
Miss you all.
