NMR - The Worlds End was very good but a bit different in feel than Shaun or Hot Fuzz. More grown up and a bit sadder at times. Also the soundtrack is totally reminds me of late high school and college. Even though I did get to attend the trilogy w/ the Q & A I already bought tickets for the trilogy showing on the 22nd and am taking the DH. What can I say I am a total fangirl.

I'm plotting ... DH and I would would each need to take a day off or half-day at work to do this. Couple options including an Alamo Drafthouse that I've wanted to check out -- if I can figure out how to get there from Midtown. It's probably worth it. Hmmmm ... :thinkin:

There's an Alamo Drafthouse on the east coast?? (lived in Austin for nearly 8 years)

I am so behind the times.

But I'm a huge fan, too. Can't wait to see this!

a love of handbags and edgar wright films! hah i feel like i've found my people.

I think I need to sacrifice something to whatever deity is in charge of internet connectivity. I had the last in a series of appointments for a speed upgrade set for Friday and now have lost all connection on our DSL. I think I've burned through a lot of my data allowance too. Am trying to decide if back up cable internet is a luxury or a necessity.

I have back up cable internet and sometimes I feel like a wasteful jerk for having it, but I'm on call if there are problems at work and sometimes work from home. The back-up is a dedicated media download line for the TV when I'm not on it (that way I don't have VOD competing with normal usage). My cable connection is faster than my DSL, so I should switch which is back-up and which is the daily use, but it is super convenient to just plug the cable connection right into the tivo and VOD is faster wired. I used to use the cable as the primary, but the router broke and I just failed over to the other connection and started using the cable for wired connections. I have a new router, so maybe I should switch everything back. I'm supposed to call and schedule an appointment for my DSL to be upgraded, but I never remember to figure out what my phone number is so I can access my account. I only use the landline for my alarm and DSL.

I think we are going to end up with a similar setup. I need to call about getting cable internet today before my MiFi catches fire. Somehow everything that can go wrong has with my DSL upgrade, multiple rescheduled appts, the phone company wiring the incoming line to the wrong box, the early death of our old service. So far the only useful person was the installer. The DH is acting like I am nuts but he's the one who needs uninterrupted service and will also sulk if he can't play his steam games when he gets back. Somehow the internet only breaks when he is not here.

I am happy that it's Friday though. I gotta finish some crafting projects and get on my RAOK shopping. :)

Hi fafnir -- you're not behind the times at all. The Alamo here just opened last week! In Yonkers of all places -- a little hard to get to for me because it's neither near work nor home, but that's just as well because I won't try to go too often. :p There's another slated for downtown Brooklyn. We'll have to wait until 2015 for that one though. Looks like SF is getting one!

I am going to the trilogy!!! And so looking forward to it! DH and several others tweeted to ask if they were going to serve Cornettos and they responded with this. Sounds delish but awful at the same time >>> Three flavours trilogy sundae: Vanilla ice cream, strwbry sauce, mint choc sauce, peanuts, fresh blebry, sugar cone. <<< Confession: I never noticed the Cornetto connection in the other two films.

I did manage to get the day off -- kind of shocking. I'm too much of a goodie-goodie to play hooky. I'd be wracked with guilt while trying to enjoy myself. So at least this is legit. And for DH, unfortunately it'll be involuntary because he just got laid off from the "permanent" full-time job that he had for about a half a year. That's not quite as dire as it sounds because he's used to having to pull together enough freelance work to get by, and my benefits cover both of us. Though it would be really nice if he could hang on to something full-time -- it puts him in a much better mental space. And it gets him out of the house.

All cable all the time here, with the fastest possible home connection (DH is a "high-volume streamer"). I wouldn't trade it for anything else, though it didn't help us during the massive storms in the last couple of years. After Sandy, the cable was out for several more days after the electricity came back. So nothing's perfect. We've been looking into a backup -- something cheap so we won't get stuck with a big bill if we never have to use it. Other than the local Starbucks, of course.

It is frustrating sometimes to be at the mercy of the cable provider for internet, phone and tv. And they sent us a new modem the oher day that was mysteriously missing a few parts.

nmr - yay! I hope you all have fun! I'm going to have to just bring a big bag and sneak in something edible.

We're on day 7 of what we are now calling "The Great Outage" of 13. I have at least managed to get to a magical escalation department who are trying to get my old service back online. I am trying to convince the DH that it's in his best interest to talk to his office and schedule our back up install but he's being resistant. I wish I could have gone with one of the higher rated local companies but they use tiny dishes that they have to install on your building and you need line of sight for it to work.

Eek as soon as we're back online I need to get on my RAOK shopping.

Yikes, MB! Is your internet back up yet?

I took a leather bag making workshop on Friday. It was free at Mood Fabrics (where they shop on Project Runway), which is unreal to me because it was such a great workshop. The instructor even worked through lunch and stayed late so we could finish. The plan was for everyone to make boxy totes, but he helped us draft our own patterns so we could make whatever we wanted. I didn't finish completely. The hardware I bought was too small (and I didn't really like it anyway) so I need to buy more before I can complete the bag. Since it was my first bag I didn't want to use expensive leather, so I got some slightly blemished cowhide from Tandy that they were selling by the pound -- about 15-20sqft for $22. It was a mushroomy brown, but I put a metallic gold stain over it to hide the blemishes. I made a slouchy hobo with a pleated bottom and mystery braided strap. I need to add D-rings to the bag and clips to the ends of the strap to finish. I wanted the strap attached with clips so it was less boring. The lining is a bitter-lime inspired sateen. I didn't have enough time to do pockets, but maybe on the next one. I was so tired when I got home. I didn't realize what hard work it was while I was doing it because I was too engrossed. I bought more hides at Mood for my next project, whatever that ends up being. It was so much fun.

Hi Sally! Happy summer break. :smile1:

MT - yes after a week and a half we're finally back online. We can now each have our own network. I'm still working out other problem though -like getting original acct cancelled. :P

You bag sounds great! I need to get on projects - once I finish my RAOK.
