Really, I have a good excuse for being MIA. Good to see all are doing well. I was thoroughly charmed by Chloe's Christmas pics. Thanks for sharing Mish!

news over here:
Gracie had cancer surgery last week and prognosis is pretty good at this time.
HoneyBear continues to improve with no adverse effects as we lower her drug levels.
Rosie had company over Christmas which really brought out her personality and she is finally acting normal for a young cat. It took 2 yrs to get over being a shelter kitty !

My son (and his gorgeous cat, Rosie's bff) were in town for a whole month YEAH and he brought a surprise..... a fiancee ! They were keeping it secret since Sept because I had not met her yet. She is fun, smart and pretty. Their happiness is contagious. :cloud9:

I have been busy with leatherwork and mixing NP, soap, shampoo & shower gels, while nursing my furbabes, and picked up another hobby. (making up for all those years work work work with no time for fun stuff.)
Homemade cordials ~ why ? I don't even drink them, they are fun to make and look nice.
I have made simples so far, organic peach w/spices, blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, chocolate mint and coffee. Cranberry was funny and took two tries. The first batch came out like very potent cranberry sauce jello shots. I LMAO b/c I knew better than to make a rookie mistake. Don't worry, it's a killer side with smoked turkey, or swirled into vanilla ice cream, or as a sauce over pound cake. I want to try hazelnut next and am open to suggestions. My son and his friends settled on the chocolate mint as favorite so we used up all the leaves left from last summer's garden to make a second and third batch. The cats love to smell the tiny cups. They think it's peoplenip.

Weather is nuts, 60plus to 0 F in 24hrs... Big thunder/lightning in the afternoon, house shook and animals jumped ~ me too!

please Cho ,Enga, Jenni and Ging check in soon

Your Mims bags look pretty great, MB. I bookmarked the shop.

I still haven't delved into my leather work experiment. I'm kind of afraid of cutting the leather, but it isn't like I can't just buy a new hide if I mess up. I get the same way with sewing. It's weird, because I'm usually one to just jump in with both feet.

My pups are getting so big. Vi is 9 months old today and Poppy was 4 months old yesterday. I can't believe it, it doesn't seem like they've been around that long. We had an emergency vet visit on Sunday. Poppy got sick and I thought it was just a tummy ache, but over a few hours she kept getting sicker and then had blood coming out both ends. I freaked out and rushed her to the vet. They pumped her full of fluids and meds and she bounced right back. She went back today and she weighed a pound more this morning than on Sunday evening, poor little thing must have been super dehydrated (a pound's a lot when you only weight 13lbs). I'm so thankful that she's doing better. All her tests came back negative, so I don't know what was wrong, but the vet said it doesn't matter since she got over it so quickly. I had to delay her rabies shot though, so there's still a chance she'll go Cujo (or more Cujo) :D

MT, that is frightening, I am glad Poppy is OK but wth was going on !? Did they have a guess ?

This leather project is glazed lamb and purple pig, right ? Both are easy to work with. Will you machine sew it ? It's normal to be apprehensive about cutting at first. It helps if you cut a craft paper pattern to be certain of your measurements. That way you can play with the shape and approve your design before you cut. Seam allowances depend upon what stitches you plan to use. Mark the back of the hide and use dedicated leather shears after you "find your cut", that is study the face of the hide to find placement amidst the normal variations of texture, thickness, and color.
Every stitch makes a permanent hole / no do overs. Sometimes I trim the edges of a hide to smooth them out, get the feel of that hide in my shears before making major cuts. What tools have you acquired thus far ?

I am much more scared of cutting fabric and have so much beautiful cloth pristinely folded, patiently waiting.

and Happy belated Birthday to you !!!

Gosh has it been that long already, MT? Your poor pup, that must have been so scary. What are you thinking for your leather project? Do you have any sketches?

Glad to see you around, Stormy! What a wonderful holiday and it sounds like you have been having a fun time getting into new projects.

In November I picked up two stray cats from my parking lot, I think its a mother son combo. I named them Harry and Lily. The sad thing is I think she wants to be alone and isn't adjusting to indoor life well. Do you guys know if keeping a mama and her kitten together is normal?

OMG my dogs are such whack-a-doos. I just caught them bumping into my end table repeatedly to knock bottles of nail polish off and then taking the polish out back and hiding it in my veggie patch. Heathens! At least they were working as a team and getting along.

I missed your post Stormy, it looks like you posted while I was typing. It sounds like you had a fantastic end of year. I'm so happy to hear all of your good news. Making cordials sounds like fun. I think I might try making limoncello because my lemon crop is going to be out of control this year.

My "big" leather work project was going to be a Kindle case, but the need for that has dried up -- my mom bought one while I was dawdling. She got a lot of gadgets for Christmas this year, so maybe a pouch to keep all the cords and accessories in. I have a mallet, tooling board, lacing punch, rivet setter, mini punch set, lacing needle, and safety beveler. I thought I bought more than that -- I spent over $300. I also got the 2 hides, a sheet of bag stiffener, rivets, a magnetic closure, suede lacing, contact cement, pearl glaze, and leather finish. I have the needles and feet to machine sew, but I thought I'd start slowly and just cement and lace this time around. I didn't buy shears because they said I could just use my Olfa rotary cutters with new blades.

I don't know a lot about cats, but it doesn't seem odd to me to keep family together.

Hi Stormy! Nice to see you back. Congratulations to your son and pets to all the kitties. All your projects sound fantastic. i need to get off my lazy butt.

Monkeytail - I love the story about your dogs and the nail polish. The cats like to bat them around and pick them up too. I am so glad Poppy is ok. Your leather working project sounds like fun.

jsenning - I've known people who kept a mom and a kitten and had it work out. I guess because she was outside longer she might have a harder time.

What's everyone up to? I've been doing a lot of knitting and dog training. If only I could train the dogs to knit. They have a lot of free time and could be way more productive members of the household. They need to learn to clean instead of make messes too, wouldn't that be great?

I think I'm doing a Euro road trip in June. I'm not sure. I had figured out how to have it be free-ish, but part of my grand scheme fell through unless I change to going in September. I need to figure it out.

Hey MT!
We also had an emergency vet visit for Ash. He's fine now but was hurking stuff up all over the place on day. It was kind of freaky - after that visit when he would sleep he'd tip over and be all floppy. He redeemed himself by finally eating and keeping down a bowl of chicken right before we were due to bring him back. I also wish I could train my pets to do something useful.

I am hoping that the thing going around work isn't norovirus. There are only 3 of us in my dept atm and 1 has a sick kid and the rest of us were exposed to a sick person who came back from a cruise. I bought a ton of bland carbs just in case.

A free euro trip sounds cool. I've made this weekend a 4 day weekend. If I'm not sick we're going to go to the Heath factory and run around town.
