I often wonder what happened to laura - ohcarnage. She was my late night buddy.

sallyca, my student is on a "bathroom break" so I snuck onto his laptop. I just want you to know that Laura tweeted me on FB so at least I (and we) know she's alive. But I didn't get a response to my response.

I hope all is well with her. I miss her too.

More l8tr if not today then at some point. It's bloody cold here but at least it's sunny so I'm not SADDing.

:hugs:

Hi Nikki! good to see you back!

GB - a friend of mine had a part of his dissertation research in medieval history that dealt with writing about women craving chalk and dirt.

mishka - Chlöe must be getting so big these days. are you up in Tahoe? Is it nice and snowy?

I finally totally fully caught up in the thread. LOL love hte butt discussions.

It's dreary and drippy here today and of course I wandered out without an umbrella. I hope someone somewhere is having decent weather.

We had glorious tree-hunting weather! 20s this morning, and by lunchtime it must have been at 40. I was running around in a tee and cardigan (and Beloved LOL).

I've figured out how to work off all the pasta I love to eat.
MAKE the pasta I eat. By hand (and roll it out by hand). Good grief. My arms are going to be sore tomorrow!

Sneaking in here for a minute. I just finished frying up a whole table full of hand grated (not food processed) pounds of potatoes and onions for home made potato pancakes (latkes). Served with traditional applesauce made with granny smith apples and not so traditional creme fraiche, chopped onions, caviar and more topping for the adults. The college kids didn't get the caviar..LOL.

Jen, I commiserate with you. I switched between right and left hand. Delts, triceps and forearms are aching like crazy. Best workout this side of Pilates.

DDs made homemade garlic bread with pesto, chocolate truffles, molten chocolate death by chocolate cupcakes, I made homemade (traditional) jelly donuts called sufganiyote. Lots of dairy and vegetarian dishes, soups, rolls, dips, finger food..I never want to see another potato until next year. I'm thinking about how much time should elapse before I serve anything with mushrooms. BTW, Latkes or potato pancakes are a European, Ashkenazi , Chanukkah tradition, while the suganiyote are Middle Eastern, Sepharadi, Israeli tradition. Both involve oil...lots of it..as in deep fried..and greasy..and heaven on earth when fresh.

This year, with all the craziness (I worked non-stop for days so didn't have much prep time) and with such a mixed group of guests (and crashers) I decided to serve both groups buffet style. Much less serving for me.

We trimmed the entire house inside and outside with blue and white fairy lights, including the palm trees indoors, tinsel, lit my huge Chanukiah (FYI, a menorah has 7 lights, the traditional Chanukiah has a total of 9).

Lu, I remember you asked about this. It's really anything goes when it comes to decorating, depending on a family's traditions. The given is lighting the Chanukiah. We have fun decorating inside and outside. We even have a Chanukah Harry (do not ask about this, again, it's sort of a family joke because my brother (may he rest in peace) would dress up like Santa each year and visit children in shelters....suffice it to say we re-dressed a Santa who looks uncannily like my Baby Brother..it makes me smile to see him but we hide him when Mom comes over, like tonight).

We also hang a Disney quilt that we bought when the kids were little, featuring a Chanukiah with the seven dwarves, and Prince Charming as branches holding the candles (a new one gets velcroed in place each night), and Snow White as the middle, taller branch holding the candle that lights the rest (Shamash)

Lots of a cappella singing and hoisting assorted potent and non-potent beverages and raucousness going on still.

Now a slightly non-traditional game of beer pong is going on. (I've confiscated car keys already.) Plus some sort of something rowdy involving shutting off the backyard security light lights, blindfolds, sheets worn as diapers or togas (perhaps some sort of quasi-Grecian or Maccabian costume attempt?), a frisbee, a football, badminton racquets and birdies (the shuttlecock kind, {no dirty jokes please} not my african grey/sun conure kind) and no outdoor jackets permitted even though it's about 30 and dropping, is going on in my backyard. Do I want to even venture a guess?

I feel old.

Gotta go downstairs and mingle. I hate mingling. I want to sit in a hot bath and brood. I used to have a huge family gathering most holidays. Now it's just Mom, me, kids and DH.

Cho! - I love freshly washed baby smell..... it is truly wonderful. I gave Chlöe a kiss for you! Sorry about Applebees. I once went there ONLY to get the Blondie Brownie with Ice cream, because I remembered it being wonderful.... It did taste good while I ate it, but I will never do it again. It was like pure sugar.

LOL Gingey! I also love your avatar!

Nikki! So glad to see you! You absolutely would never be forgotten and could never be a newbie! Hope all is going well now and that any trials and tribulations are behind you or sorted out satisfactorily (Jennirane- is that a word?).

Sacc! - Hugs and Hi to you!!

Gingey! - I ate a lot of ice while prego too. I went from not being able to stand ice in my water to desperately needing it constantly. I would find myself at a restaurant near my house JUST because they had HUGE water glasses. In the end, I asked if I could purchase some of their water glasses (huge 32 ounce plastic pepsi cups LOL (glamorous)), and they gave me a couple.

Mothbeast! - Hi! I'm actually in CHattanooga TN. CHOO CHOO LOL. Though we did have some crazy winter storm right before I left and apparently a continuation of unseasonable snowy weather.... I heard 8 feet at Squaw... I think we had about a foot in Reno (few inches here, few inches there) over the few days of the storm leading up to Turkey day... Chlöe is gigantic. She is near the top of the charts for weight and height.... At her four month check up two weeks ago she was 26" and 15 lbs!! And she's off the charts adorable LOL. I mean, if I do say so myself haha. Sorry SF is so drizzly! I hope the weather clears up for you!

Jenni! - l love tree hunting! That's awesome! Especially when it can be done in a tshirt and cardigan (and of course Beloved) And I am sure you are working off the pasta by making it. It sounds fantastic. You never cease to amaze me.

Gingey - That sounds like such a feast! Your decorating sounds amazing! I know you hate mingling, but I wish I could come over. The whole shebang sounds like a movie! Hugs and hope you get some rest and hot bath time soon.

Clutched! Congrats on the computer! That is AWESOME!!!

:hugs: Mish & Gingey!!!
We decorated the tree, rocked out to Adam Sandler and "The Chanukah Song", the pasta was FAB, the prosecco MORE fab, made out :graucho: to Tom Waits' Bone Machine (the BEST make-out album EVA) and then argued over the lyrics in "Leading Man". Ah, such is married life. Now we're nursing martinis and sighing over the cats who are sighing over the Christmas (nee pagan/solstice LOL) tree.

HUGS to the HHHotties!!!:smooch:
