sigh. just a quick rant about drs offices. I just called to cancel a procedure that would have taken all day on Monday because I am sick. I called yesterday and they were like see how you feel tomorrow. The person I talked to today was all passive-agressive and grumpy about it. She kind of accused me of cancelling twice when the first time I tried to schedule they didn't call and talk to me they just picked a date and left it on my voicemail.

Hope MT and 2many are doing ok.

I think I'm pretty much fine, just super sore. A bit of whiplash, a bit of bruising, etc. I've got to stay home a rest until Tuesday. Not surprisingly, my ortho is out of the office today, so I have to go have my shoulder inspected on Monday. Until then it's just rest, ice, and drugs -- so more of the same. I'm a little worried about costochondritis but I was already taking celebrex, so the doc thinks that'll help things not get inflamed. I have a 2nd prescription for PT, but I can do both at once. I think it is going to lead to a fight between at least 3 insurance companies over who gets stuck paying, but I'm not going to join in on that one.

I'm really bummed about my car. It was so pretty. It hasn't been declared a total loss yet, but I think it is inevitable. I think the frame is bent, but that's just based on all the openings being twisted, I don't actually know that much about auto-body repair.

You'll have to let us know when you hear back from Lauri, Lu.

I hate it when Drs offices do that MB! For PT they'll just schedule me for appointments. Sometimes they don't even tell me until after I miss them. It sucks because my schedule is busy, but they at least have a list of times that are best for me and try to accommodate.

AWESOME! i think the tree of codes will be a special present. i looked high and low and i don't think there's a bookseller in the US that has it in stock. the scarcity makes it extra special. :) and good call on the dfw. i didn't even realize there's a posthumous book coming out. off to amazon. weee.

and congrats on your collaboration. :yahoo: woodcuts are amazing. what a great accompaniment to your poetry.

^^ SWHING!!!! Thanks, Sacch!!! First prezzie for DH FOUND!!!

(And BTW I just met the main printmaker prof on campus--they asked me to join a search committee for a painting prof, and we really hit it off. He loved the broadsides I have in my office... so we might collaborate on a poetry broadside!! He's currently doing a lot of woodcut prints. I've got one poem that I think would work great; the central image is a whooping crane.)

ETA: SECOND present ordered, too!! I:heart:Amazon... the JSF page linked me to a David Foster Wallace (posthumous) book coming out in the new year... I can print out the cover art and wrap it for him.

Hey Sacc
It's available at both the NYU bookstore (Broadway) and at Shakepeare & Co. in Brooklyn.
They both have websites, and I think that you can order online. (Use the search function).

oh, mt. take care of yourself. sounds like a bad deal.

moth, that sucks. i really get ticked off when pissy people work at drs offices and hospitals. hello, it's supposed to be a place of healing!

lulu, keep us posted. i'm super worried about lauri too. i sent her a thinking of you postcard last week. it's just not the same without her. she was so active on this forum.

HEY JEN!
I happened to be at NYU for an alumni event and was scouting out French books for my honors seniors (nous lisons Marie de France, premier femme poète français) when I thought I'd ask. (They also have The Street of Crocodiles.)

I ordered them for my son. He's a grad student in geology at Stonybrook, but I think he'll love them both. He's a lit buff.

I'm pretty sure DH has Street of Crocodiles, but I'll check his shelf today :D If he doesn't they should definitely be a pair. But yeah, since the DFW isn't out till April it would be nice to actually *have* the JSF under the tree.

What aspect of her are you doing your thesis on? She's a bit of an enigma, right? And I assume you're writing it in French? I'm gearing up to edit an anthology next year; it's been sooooo long since I did any scholarly work (outside the occasional book review and prepping for classes) but I'm really excited! I miss that deep, deep immersion in a topic. With my teaching schedule, it's only every other year or so that they throw me an upper division lit class (usually I do the upper division creative writing classes).

mt, yikes! Glad it sounds as if you're better than you could have been after the accident. Sorry about the car, isn't it funny how attached we get to them? Costochondritis? Eep! That hurts! Sending you positive thoughts that you'll be better soon.

There are aspects of school that I really miss. Right out of college I got a job as a lab researcher under one of my professors. It paid 5.25 an hour and it was only 6 months but wow do I miss the mental challenges that came with the job. It made me feel smart. my job now I don't feel smart at all. Just going through the motions.

I'd give my left arm (i'm a lefty) to have those kind of mental challenges again (as long as their aren't my life related, KWIM)

I get dumber every year.

Here's a good seniors joke - I used to laugh AT jokes like this. Now I just laugh WITH them. DH and I go upstairs - forget why we went there and have to come back down again to figure it out.

-----

Couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember ...
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks.
'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?'
'Sure..'
'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks.
'No, I can remember it..'
'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?'
He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.'
'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks.
Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!'
Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, The old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.. She stares at the plate for a moment.

'Where's my toast ?'
