Have you/would you ever rent a designer bag?

renting a bag seems silly to me...just buy a bag if you really love it. Its a much better investment to buy then to rent since with renting you have spent money on something you dont get to keep in the end!

I just joined as a member on a bag rental site in Australia. I'm only planning on joining for two months, which is the introductory time period required, because I wanted to test drive a few bags before I buy. I tested out a couple of bags which I wanted to buy and found that I didn't really like them after all. I also borrowed an LV speedy which I loved and am now going to buy two versions. So I think I saved myself from buying bags that would have costed me loads and ended up not enjoying.

What I found though, I can't rent bag on an ongoing basis as I get too paranoid of ruining them. But I've still got a month or so left so I'm just going to test drive a few other bags.

saff which rental company in Australia did you join? Love Me & Leave Me or the other one?

I am a BBS member and LOVE it! I have MANY purses in my closet, but there is always something new out that I want to carry. I like the site because I can carry a new bag every week or two, without having to shell out a ton of cash.

And I agree with the previous threads.....wonderful way to "test drive" a bag before you buy. A great example of this, I rented the D&B Hayden bag. Uh yeah.....LOVE IT! So I sent it back and went and bought it the next week.

Also, they have several bags that are hard to find.....yes, you may have to be on the waiting list, but wait time isn't bad. I was on waiting list to have the LV mancrazy and I only had to wait about a week.

So all in all, if you carry the same 5-10 bags a year....BBS is not for you. But if you like to carry a new bag like all the time or you want to test drive before you buy, you should definately check it out. I personally am a fan!

I think it's a great idea if you are the type of person that likes to switch up purses very often. For myself, it isn't worth it. When I have a favorite bag, I carry it for weeks and often go back.

I don't really care if the bag is new as long as it's in a good condition. But previously working retail I learned that: Just because you buy it new from a store doesn't mean it's always new. When people returned items that you couldn't tell was worn, my supervisior ALWAYS said they were new so she wouldn't have to discount them. And then not to mention my co-workers would OFTEN try on shoes without socks or stockings! And would package them up like new

^^whoa, do they really??

and has anyone ever "stolen"?? Can you steal without renting first?

When you become a BBS member you have access to the outlet to buy discount bags. GREAT DEALS....have bought several. Not sure if you can steal without renting....don't think so.

And as to the "germ and dna" thing....COME ON! Are you serious? :wtf:
All bags I have recieved are in new or like new condition, having just undergone a rigorous cleaning process. So honestly, you're probably more likely to get germ transfer from a new purse than one from BBS.

People handle bags in department stores.....do you really think that the associates run over and sanitize every one after it has been touched? And dna only can survive for a couple days at most on any given surface....doesn't anyone watch CSI??????? :graucho:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.....I would never rent a purse. I must be germaphobic because I always think about what was put in that bag before I got to use it, like a used tissue with lipstick on it, or whatever......or food.....or cigarettes....I just don't want anyone else's DNA swimming around in my bag.

i feel EXACTLY the same way! a woman's handbag to me is something very personal and i just can't get behind the idea of buying something that someone else has already used! who knows what was going in and out of it! and i have seen the way some women treat their bags - just throw them around anywhere. even on the ground! no thanks - i will save my money if need be before i ever go about getting a bag that way!

I rented from Bag Borrow & Steal before Sex and the City came out. My first rental was a four-figure bag to accessorize an outfit for a charity event. The bag made the outfit really pop, and I'd have no reason to wear the outfit again, so it was a brilliant way to handle it.

The other time I rented from BBS was just prior to a two-week trip to Italy. I'd been looking for a good bag to carry on board as a "personal item" but something that would also serve me well once I was on the ground. I rented a bag I couldn't find locally, to test drive. I did love the bag--very soft--but there was a teensy stitching flaw on the flap. But for that, I probably would have "stolen" it. Instead, I bough the Neverfull GM from my local LV store.

By the way, both bags I rented were brand new, never rented before.
Here's a blog post on my experience: http://www.completelyfabulous.com/2008/04/bag-bonanza/

I did some research and if you don't mind spending over a 100 dollars a WEEK then go for it, but really after a month or so you could have just owned the purse. I am gonna have to say it isn't practical for the money you are spending because in the end you don't really have anything to show for it and a lot of money thrown away.

Reading all the comments I think it just depends on what you want. Personally, they're are bags that I dream of owning, some which are out of my reach and some that aren't. The ones that I can afford, I buy, the ones I can't, I don't.

Then they're are the 'it' bags, those stunning objects of desire or those bags iconic of a particular standout season a designer may have (such as The Prada Fairy), I'm most likely going to be in love one minute, and indifferent the next. These are bags I borrow.

I still want to have a play with them, because that's what accessorizing should be about; expressing yourself and having fun with fashion! It should not be flaunting your ownership. For me, the priority is 'style' and styling my wardrobe.

For me fashion is about creation, artistry and design; not capitalism. So I don't see borrowing as opposed to buying as a negative, just a great tool at my disposal so I can have more fun with fashion without having to be at the mercy of the (free falling) dollar.

Anyone who can come up with such a genius concept which gives me access to a whole extra wardrobe gets my applause.

I used bagborroworsteal.com. I know the prices are kinda high but there's offer codes EVERYWHERE...in fact i have 61 dollars in credit right now and I can rent a treesje purse for one month for 40 dollars which is free to me. Honestly, they have the BEST BEST BEST customer service EVER...the nicest people I have ever dealt with and I like the fact they have live help instead of having to call them, which is what ive done every single time. I'm using it again...I used BBS for a expensive bag and I ended up not wanting to buy the bag and returned it..worked out great. Now I'm using it for a asher bag where there's no other place that has the silver color available.
