Have you/would you ever rent a designer bag?

Someone did on the MJ sub-forum recently. She didn't have access to the bag she wanted and wanted to see if she liked it before she committed to buy (on eBay). She found out that it wasn't really for her through BBS. I thought it was a great idea!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.....I would never rent a purse. I must be germaphobic because I always think about what was put in that bag before I got to use it, like a used tissue with lipstick on it, or whatever......or food.....or cigarettes....I just don't want anyone else's DNA swimming around in my bag.

I agree w/you Compass Rose, that's why I only buy new bags.

I am weird like that too. I can't imagine using a purse someone else used (unless it was a close friend or my mother's). To me a bag is a personal item. If I couldn't afford the bag I want, I would buy one I could afford. I wouldn't rent one just to carry around a high end bag.

I am sort of a germaphobe but honestly you really can't avoid germs and other people's DNA. When you sit on a chair in a waiting room or touch a door going into a store, etc. you are being exposed.

As far as renting a bag I think I had gone onto the site out of curiosity and it really wasn't that cheap. If you saved up for like 5 months the amount you would spend on their premium membership you could just buy the bag for yourself. I'm not into the bag renting thing but if somebody only liked to carry a bag for a month and then never again it might be practical for her.

Ditto on the fact that it isn't that cheap. I considered it for half a second until I saw how much it costs. If you purchase the monthly membership at $9.95 per month, and say you'd like to rent something simple like a LV Speedy 30 you're looking at $125 a month. No membership? Well, then it's $160 a month. Want something a little more high end? Like the LV Denim Bowly or the Mongram Jokes? You're looking at $595 a month (Member) or $619 a month (Non-Member).

I'd rather save my pennies and own the bag, instead of dealing with the heartbreak of having to send it back. Not to mention, throwing away $600 just to carry a great bag for a month.

^^^I agree! It's kinda like buying/wearing used shoes!!! :yucky::throwup:

When you talk brand new, it might not always be that way! I have looked at bags at NM and Nordstrom that are "brand new" that look used. Once I looked at one that had a used tissue inside it!! I think that stores like NM and Nordstrom have such an easy return policy that sometimes people buy them, use them and return them.

I borrowed a Chloe Mini Paddington from BBS a few weeks ago, to see if I liked it before purchasing one.
They have like a 10 point cleaning process done to each purse to ensure it is like new. I understand the germ issue, but the bag was in prestine condition when I got it.
I think it is worth while to people who cannot shop at an actual store for certain items and want to try them out before spending the money. I live too far away from stores that carry higher end merchandise, so I do tons of online shopping.

Also if you love the purse, they give you the option to steal it at a lower price.

Simply put, it isn't worth the cost. The cheaper bags could really be bought outright quite easily and the really pricey bags like Chanel and such have such high rental costs per month that simply saving that money would get you the bag you wanted in maybe 3-4 months.

I get it for an event if you need something expensive but all in all, I wouldn't. It is really throwing money away.

I never have, as I consider it quite expensive in comparison to buying a bag outright and investing in it for many wears. Echoing what others have said I would be worried about germs etc.

This reminds me of the rent vs. buy debate of real estate. Do you save up and invest in something that will be yours forever or throw your money away and then have nothing to show for it in the end? I would rather wait for the bag I really want than rent and throw my money away. The only reason I'd rent was if I needed to see a bag in person that I couldn't get a hold of in a store before purchasing it. I haven't been in that situation as of yet, but its the only scenario I can envision for myself. Ever since the SATC movie, these sites must be raking in the dough.

If I was the kind of person who didn't like to carry a bag more than 10 or so times, it would be kinda worth it I guess. Since I love all of my bags, I enjoy owning them and don't mind carrying them more often and in a smaller rotation.

I was interested in BBS until I saw the prices. I think it is better to save the money and buy the bag you want rather than renting it. I could never give it back if I really liked it.
